*Alarm buzzes*

You groggily hit the snooze a minimum of two times before waking up for that 8 a.m. you regretted signing up for. It's a Monday and the last thing you want to do is get out of the blanket cocoon you've put yourself in.

We have been there. The college student. A species of its own. We mentally prepare ourselves to take on getting an education.

When junior or senior year of college roll around, it is completely normal to feel stressed, anxious or confused. One would not be human if they didn't experience distress in some form or another. That doesn't mean we have to allow it to consume our minds.

Getting your learning on is an amazing privilege and an opportunity in itself, do not get me wrong. Sometimes you just get a little overwhelmed. That is OK.

I am almost done with my first semester of junior year and I have retained a lot of journalistic information. Taking six classes along with working part-time has made my brain feel a little like that one episode of Spongebob #justcollegethings.

Yeah, this one.Giphy

It's truly important to take a step back and remember why you're doing this. To further your education, to get a future career, whatever the reason do not forget it. You went to college for that reason.

Take a deep breath.

Meditate.

Work out.

Facetime a friend.

Journal your thoughts.

Treat yourself to a relaxing day.

Do something that makes you happy.

Never lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm still trying to figure out what internships to do, what classes do I have left before graduation in less than two years, if I should start looking for places to live on my own.

That's why there are advisors, I promise they will be your friend on this journey. Listen to the educational advice they have for you, trust me they know what they're talking about. Sit down with your parent(s) and see what your options could be for you financially. They can help supportively and mentally. Talk to friends, you never know- they might be going through the same thing.

Becoming an adult so quickly in this day and age is intense. Just don't forget to take a step back and recollect yourself every once in a while. It is healthy for the mind and soul. Good luck.

*Alarm buzzes once again*

You half smile as your dog runs into your room and licks your cheek. He is the only alarm you need. You hop up and get ready for school. You know you've got this.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
