5 Helpful Ways To Relieve Stress, Just In Time For School

Everyone knows how life gets... one day is all hunky dory, and the next, something goes terribly wrong. It happens to everyone. Many people handle stress and anxiety differently. This time of year is when school starts again and work is in full swing. Here are some fun, relaxing ways to take a step back.

1. Playing An Instrument

If you know how to play the guitar, drums, clarinet, or whatever it may be, more power to you! Learning to play an instrument can be difficult and takes a lot of time and energy. Depending on how invested and experienced you may be, simply rocking out may help to take the stress away temporarily.

2. Listening To Your Favorite Band Or Genre of Music

Got headphones, a speaker, a car, or a laptop? Music has been one of the best methods for people to relieve stress, build themselves up, and to pump up one's energy. For possible anxiety attacks, country music or softer songs are better options, but it doesn't have to be softer music, it can be hard rock, pop punk, or whatever best suits your personality and helps you.

3. ROAD TRIP!

Who doesn't love a vacation or day trip? Every once in a while, getting away from the everyday craziness of your normalcy can really rejuvenate you as a person and create some cool memories. Popular places to go are the beach, the city, the mall, concerts, sporting events and so on...where are you heading next?

4. Stay-At-Home Day

What better way to take a step back than to relax at home? Home is where the heart is and a great place to kick up your feet and do nothing. Plan an in-home fun day with food and games. Invite friends over to keep the liveliness going, or don't do that at all. Spending time away is good any which way!

5. Being By Yourself Is Okay

Sometimes the stereotypical way people think about being alone is depressing. But guess what? It does not have to be looked at that way. Everyone can use alone time to recoup energy and to get better in certain situations. It is silly how being alone can be considered stupid. I know from personal experiences, being alone is a great way to relieve stress and anxiety, especially if people are what's causing it.

If you're stressed out, anxious, upset, or annoyed, do not worry about what others think and do what' s best for you. Your mental health should always be a priority.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
