Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and another nameless black man all have horrible similarities of death in the span of three days. Alton Sterling native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was shot and killed five times by two police officers that had him pinned down because, he was selling It was caught on a cellphone by a homeless man that is there while police are brutality handling Sterling in front of a convenience store. Philando Castile was shot when he was pulled over with his fiancé and four year old daughter in the backseat in Minnesota. Castile's fiancée Diamond Reynolds had live streamed the incident on Facebook after the officer had shot Castile. Castile, had informed the police officer that pulled them over because of an alleged broken tail light, that he had a licensed gun on him while he did as instructed to pull out his I.D. and registration was shot numerous of times. In Atlanta, Georgia a male body was found in Piedmont Park at one of the entrances hanging from a tree. The male body identity has not yet been released to the public but, was found by police at five in the morning on June 7.
These consecutive events has sparked an outrage with protests in Dallas, Atlanta, Minnesota, Washington D.C. and most likely many more to come. The Black Lives movement is in full affect as the videos and images of these black men surface on the web, to urge black people to take a stand and let our voices be heard. Of course the All lives matter movement will chime in as they have yet to understand the purpose of Black Lives Matter. As white people created this and do not realize how racist saying that All lives Matter when Black people start to say that Black Lives Matter. Where was All lives Matter when the tragic Orlando shooting occurred? The constant misunderstanding of why the Black Lives Matter movement was formed. It is not to say that black people lives are above all others lives it is saying that black lives are as valuable and precious as others. The blindness and the plain unwillingness to recognize that black men and women lives are at more of risk at this moment and time. That yes, there is something wrong with this picture that a white man that raped an unconscious woman can get three months of prison time, a white man that shoot and killed people in a church is trying to dismiss charges, but when a black man can't even pull out his I.D. when asked by the police and complies gets shot right in front of his daughter.
This reminds me of a song called Strange Fruit, a haunting song about blacks being lynched and looking like fruit hanging from a tree. Originally sung by Billie Holiday but, Nina Simone does a cover and sends chills down your spine. Strange fruit is what is happening today but, instead of these fruits in trees the fruits plopped to the ground in front of convenience stores, playgrounds, streets, cars, train stations, police stations. The time to sit back and be quite is over. How many black bodies will it take for people to realize that this is still an ongoing issue? I stand with the Black Lives Matter movement as we must not stand for injustice to an already mistreated and looked down race. We must come together as one or nothing will be done.
