Deviating from my series on stories and how they are told, I have decided to tell you all another one of my passions…MUGS!
Not only mugs, but also glasses, goblets, cups, etc. I try to avoid shot glasses and flasks because they are related to alcohol. However, all other apparatuses are fair game!
Why do I love them so much? Surprisingly, it makes me drink more fluids. Would you rather drink water from a clear glass that has nothing special or unique about it, or from a goblet whose handle is the body of Yoda? Maybe you would rather a glass of milk from Captain America’s head? How about some hot tea from a mug where Henry VIII’s wives disappear as you pour the hot water in? The possibilities are endless!
Frankly, it also adds a bit of fun. That may sound odd, but if you liked the sound of the glasses I just mentioned then you would find it enjoyable to drink from them. Think of how you would look drinking from just one of the strange, interesting, intricate and ornate glasses you may have seen on your travels. Doesn’t it make you smile a little?
Of course, maybe avoid using the nerdy or just plain weird glassware when you have special company--such as potential in-laws--might not be the best idea. You may not be at the stage with them where you can show your “true colors” to them. I have not experienced this, but I believe those who have can tell me I am right in saying you have to impress certain people in different ways.
Additionally, glassware collecting is not an expensive hobby. A cool mug--like a disappearing TARDIS when in hot water--may cost $14 new. Obviously, if you only collect those mugs it will become expensive. However, many wonderful pieces of glassware can be found at thrift stores for only a few dollars or less. Plus if people know you collect them, mugs and other such apparatuses can make wonderful additions to your wish list for any holiday where presents are given.
Like any collection, each piece is special. I am currently looking at part of my own collection and I am recalling certain moments such as my high school graduation, my trip to China and times at HOBY, a place that changed my life. Each piece is special. I would not have them if they were not. Each one tells a story. Hey…maybe this is a part of my series on stories! Gotcha!
