Who Tells Your Story?

What will we leave behind?

So I may or may not be highly obsessed with Lin Manuel and his production of Hamilton, but heck, who isn't? Lin Manuel created a master piece and with his creation came back a true question that we must ask ourselves: When we are sadly all gone, what is left of us? What pieces have we left in this world that are still warm from our presence? What is left to tell of who we were? What we did in our life?

Who will tell our story? More importantly, who will tell YOUR story?

There are many ways that would preserve our memories and our presence in the future. One of the most prominent ways of preserving our story and essence is by word of mouth, told by the ones we loved.

We all know someone that we care deeply for, and we know that heaven forbid that if that person were to be gone, we would hold onto everything; their words, the sound of their voice, our memories we shared. We would not allow them to go quietly into the night. No, we wouldn't dare to do that because they gave us a little bit of light in our life. We want people to know who they were. Who once created memories with us, and how and why they were important to us. Why more so than any other? When my time comes to speak of my memories of the ones I loved and still love, I will talk about the adventures I went on, the conversations we had, and the advice and statements of love that was once proclaimed. The mind holds everything together and it will re-create many pictures.

A picture is a thousand words. When we capture a moment in our life, we freeze it forever. Time will forever be frozen in the photo. By capturing moments we give ourselves a way to look back; to remember a time of joy, laughter and love. Photos contain many memories and emotions varying in each photo. We take photos for that exact reason because we wish to cherish a memory when we need it most. When time passes, photos allow us to see the person, to see them when everything was alright; it allows us to relive memories that are awoken by a single photo.

Our creations and footprints. We all have something in which we do; something that relaxes us, inspires us and even maybe makes our heart go a little faster. When we create we give a little bit of ourselves. We show what our passions are, our beliefs and what we stand for. When we speak up and fight for what we believe in, we leave a path where many will see what we have decided to accomplish. Many will see how we view the world through our eyes, or at least they can try.

We will not leave this world untouched, we will not leave our loved ones alone. Even though they will feel our absence in their life, our presence will continue on.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
