Christmas Shopping On A Budget

Because it's hard to shop for the entire family when school is taking up most of your money.

Christmas Shopping On A Budget

Personally, Christmas in my family isn't about materialistic things. It's about family time, food, and the thought you put into the gifts. Normally around this time of year, I'm working full time so I have a little more pocket money to work with but this year was different. My significant other and I go to school full time this year, which means we can only work part time. Our budget for christmas gifts was a little tight this year, but we made it work. I'm going to list a few stores that have great gifts for every person in your family that will have stuff in your price range if you're on a poor college student budget like me.

1. Five Below

I did most of my shopping here, to be honest. They have toys for my little brother, pillows and blankets for my mom, coffee cups, make-up, and I even got my other brother a guitar lesson DVD and a hot stone massage kit. They have just about anything you can think of there for, you guessed it, five dollars and below. They even have work-out equipment. I know they say you pay for what you get, but I've been shopping here for a few years now and I've gotten better quality stuff from there than "name brand" stores.

2. Wal-Mart

Everyone can talk shit about Wal-Mart all they want, but you know damn well they have everything under the sun there and it's decently priced. If you are brave enough to brace yourself and walk into that store, you'll find a ton of great deals for everyone on your list. Just remember to walk fast and keep looking forward. Never make eye contact.

3. Meijer

Again, Meijer can be a weird place but you can get so many things there. I personally love their book section and their pet section. Yes, I get my pets Christmas gifts. I wrap them too. Do not judge me. Some of their stuff can be a little pricey, but if you know how to bargain shop you'd do great here.

4. Dollar General

Don't knock it until you've tried it, okay? My family LOVES food and candy so if I know that's what someone wants for Christmas I'll go there. If nothing else, it's a great place to get stocking stuffers.

5. FYE

I'm obsessed with FYE. They have great gifts for that tech-lover in your life. They have a very large variety of music, movies, TV shows, and film merchandise there. Some things are pricey, but if you're looking for a cheap place to get 11 seasons of a TV show FYE is the place for you. CD's are really cheap there too. I know a lot of people don't really use CD's anymore, but personally I use them for road trips.

So, if you happen to find yourself on a college budget next Christmas check out these stores for all the people on your list. I guarantee you'll find something for everyone on your list.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
