There's something about music–it's not just the beat or how catchy the tune is. It's about the artist who performs and sings the heartfelt words. How they make things their own and contribute a style to the music they are performing. Music is pure art and I think covers make us realize that.
Sometimes it's nice to hear things in a different way. It opens our ears, and draws us in.
1. Ellie Goulding's Cover of "Take Me To Church" by Hozier
Ellie usually sings fast beat-pop songs–hearing her sing slow, alternative rock is so different than what we're used to. You realize how amazing her vocals are and I love the trippy beat she adds to the background of this cover.
2. Sleeping With Sirens Cover of "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls
I know what you might be thinking. It's going to be another hardcore screaming pop-goes-punk cover of a song, but I promise you, it's not. Kellin Quinn's voice is so soothing and beautiful in this song.
3. Lennon & Maisy's Cover of "Thats What's Up" by Edward Sharp and The Magnetic Zeros
The voices that come out of these young girls are amazing. From the first verse they sing, you're automatically dragged in. Personally, I think this cover is a lot catchier and cuter than the original.
5. Halsey's Cover of "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber
Still angry, bitter and not over your ex yet ? You might enjoy Halsey's cover of Love Yourself more than original.
6. Pink's cover of "Me & Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin
Pink kills it at all her covers of old rock songs. I'm still waiting for the day she becomes a hard-core rocker, because she seriously could be the next Janis of our generation.
7. Miley Cyrus's Cover of "Lilac Wine" by James Shelton
Miley, we miss your amazing vocals. This cover is art. "Lilac Wine" is a popular song covered by various artists, and I believe this is the best cover I heard so far. Miley's another singer of our generation that I believe would be a killer rockstar. I also suggest listening to Miley's cover of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton.
8. Gracie Abram's cover of "Crazy In Love" By Beyonce
I never knew how beautiful the lyrics were to this song until hearing this cover. The slow tempo is so pleasing to the ear. Gracie is an amazing upcoming artist–her songs are only available through Soundcloud, so make sure to check out more of her songs/covers!
9. Lake Street Dive's Cover of "I Want You Back" By Jackson Five
Rachael Price could sing the alphabet and I'd think it was the best cover I've ever heard. Her voice is full of soul and will drag you in. One of the most underrated bands of our generation, I suggest you listen to their cover of "Rich Girl" also.
10. Tyler Joseph's Cover of "I Can't Falling In Love" by Elvis
After hearing this cover, I can't help falling in love with Tyler Joseph.
Happy listening, my friends!
