Please Stop Telling Me I'm Prettier Without Makeup

Did I ask for your opinion on my face?

Please Stop Telling Me I'm Prettier Without Makeup

It's no secret to any that I'm a makeup addict. Log into my Youtube account, the only subscriptions you'll find are to my favorite makeup artists like Manny, Jeffree and Laura Lee. I swipe my Sephora card almost as much as I swipe my credit card. I run into CVS for face wipes and leave with three new lipsticks to try.

Sadly for me, I wasn't blessed with good pipes, I've never gotten the hang of any instruments and even my stick figures look like they were drawn by a toddler. Needless to say, the artist genes skipped me for the most parts. The only art I've ever produced is the looks I've made in front of my mirror with a blending brush. And (almost) always, I walk away loving the way it's turned out.

But what I don't love? The comments I get, but generally don't ask for, about my makeup.

"You're so pretty without all of that gunk on your face!"

"Guys don't like girls who wear so much makeup."

"I just prefer the natural look."

"But you'd look so much better without all of that."

For the love of all that's good and holy, please stop telling me I look better without makeup on. Please stop telling me I wear 'too much' makeup. Please stop telling me I don't need makeup.

Because believe it or not? I know I don't need to wear makeup. I'm not trying to impress anyone and I know for a fact I'm beautiful without any on. Yes, I do like the way I look wearing makeup but I can easily leave the house without it on. I just genuinely (most days) enjoy makeup. I still don't see how that's such a bad thing.

Sure, you're allowed to have an opinion on my makeup. But, unless you're telling me my highlights on point or there's lipstick on my teeth, I probably don't care. Now excuse me while I go work on my contour.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
