Stop & Smell the Ice-Cream

What are the little things in your life?

No matter who you are, you have to enjoy the little things in life. Society today demands us to rush. And most of the time, we are so busy that we don't realize how much of our time is taken up because we stay busy. The last two weeks have been hectic for me. I feel like I haven't been able to catch my breath. Moving and changing jobs have drained me.

I have learned to enjoy the little things in life. And those things can be anything that can take you away from your problems. Even if it is only for a few moments. I feel that the little things can be the only things in between you and your sanity. These are of my little things in my own life that help me relax, de-stress or calm down, or just plain out get away from reality.

1. Reading

I love to read. It takes me away from what is going on around me. It lets me travel without moving from my bed. Lately I haven't really been able to read any books so I read on my phone. This is one of the things that I enjoy whenever I can. I even get excited to buy a new book, though I should probably read the ones I have before any new ones are in my hands.

2. Writing

Writing is almost as important as reading to me. I write on Wattpad, a site that you can write your own stories and read other people's stories. I also write for you, my readers, here on Odyssey. It helps me think through situations that are happening in my life. Or it just helps me distract myself from those same situations.

3. Mint Chocolate Ice-cream

Mint chocolate ice-cream is my favorite. It is my go-to food when I am upset or craving something sweet or if I'm sick with strep. My mom always says it reminds her of toothpaste, but I don't think so. I love to sit down and just eat a half of tub of this stuff. I know I am a pig, you don't have to tell me. Haha! I just love it so much.

4. Vans

Vans have always been something I could never get because I didn't have the money. I usually just bought sneakers at a thrift store or Walmart because they are definitely cheaper. But last week, I bought my first pair of Vans. I am so happy that I was able to afford them.

5. Toys

Toys are something that I have never grown out of loving. I will probably love toys for the rest of my life. My kids will be dragging me out of the toy store before I have to drag them out. When I worked at Dollar General, I would get so excited for the new toys that we received. I felt like it was the joys of Christmas without keeping the said toys. Even working at Goodwill, I still get excited to see what people have donated.

These are just a few of the things that I enjoy. Maybe I enjoy them way too much for a normal person. Yet I never promised that I was normal in any way. What do you enjoy? Think about. What do you take for granted when you are too busy? I'd like to say I appreciate these things a little more than I already did now that I think bout it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
