Feminism can be defined as: "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities" (as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary). However, modern-day feminism has taken on a completely different role than the definition stated above. I am female (obviously), yet I don't support what the feminism movement has brought to our generation.
In today's generation, feminism isn't about having the same equal rights as men. It has strayed away from trying to earn equal salaries as men and equal opportunities as men. What feminism has become is a "free the nipple!" campaign and an excuse to allow ergativity in our society. So, basically, what women are fighting for is the right to have their boobs out, and to not be considered a "slut" for having sex with many men.
Let's just clear this up: men's nipples do nothing. I mean, I'm sure there are some people who get sexually aroused by men's' nipples, and honestly if that's your thing then go for it. But women's nipples are related to the breast, which is seen as sexual. The fight has become to allow women and men to both have their nipples out in a public setting. Truthfully, to me, this is the stupidest argument I have ever heard of. Obviously, the biggest problem in our world today is the fight about nipples. Give me a break. Personally, if I saw a woman with her boobs out in public, I'd be uncomfortable. I'm sure that I wouldn't be the only one.
Another argument made by feminism has become the idea of "slut shaming". Slut-shaming is basically looking down upon a woman for how many persons she chooses to have as sexual partners. I get it, when a man has sex with a lot of girls, he's seen as some kind of bro-god. But when a woman does it, she gets shamed and looked down upon. Honestly, the standard should be very simple: neither should be acceptable. Yes, whomever someone chooses to "bang" is their business. But men shouldn't be seen as awesome, and women shouldn't be looked down upon as wrong. But again, respect. It goes a really long way, and people seem to forget that. I have heard stories of people having sex with 50+ people. 50. I'm sorry, but why is that something you should be proud of? Why is being "sexually desired" by copious amounts of people considered a good thing? We all have sexual organs and sexual desires, but were human and we are built to take care of that sort of thing ourselves. Neither sex should need the other in order to fulfill sexual urges. If this is the case, then maybe people need to realize that sex shouldn't be thrown around so easily, and it should really be saved for someone who you love and trust.
Then comes the issue of what women wear shouldn't determine their worth. Newsflash: it does. Why should a 13-year-old girl think that it is acceptable to show her body off to the world? Or any woman for that matter. To wear crop-tops up to her chest, or a skirt up to her butt that if she bends over the wrong way or the wind decides to blow, she is exposed? Why does anyone think that's acceptable? It isn't. If you wouldn't wear it to your 80-year-old grandma's birthday party around all of your family, don't wear it in the street. Men will stare, females will stare. And none of it is for a good reason, I promise you that. Why does anybody think that it is okay to do that? Again, respect goes a long way. I know a lot of controversy has come around this topic in the fact of rape and what a woman wears. Let me make this clear: what a person wears shouldn't be a factor in if they got raped. It is the rapist's fault alone, no one else. Not the woman's clothes, not the man's clothes, nothing other than the rapists' fault. What I'm talking about is respect for yourself. Your body does not need to be shown to the world in order to get attention from anyone.
Another aspect of feminism that I really cannot stand is the part where women think that they should be above a man. Feminism is fighting for equality to the male gender, so why do some feminists think that it is okay to demean the male gender? It shouldn't be that way.
Feminism has strayed so far off from what it really should be: fighting for matters of importance to gain equality among the sexes. Instead of arguing about how "your body should be allowed to be shown" or that "it's OK to have sex with everyone just because a man can do it", why not fight for equal wages? Or equal job opportunities? In many of today's industries, women do not get paid as much as men do. Women also do not receive promotions as easily as a man would. Fight for that. I'm not saying that all sectors of feminism are bad. Feminism has done a great deal of good to the female gender. But, these few arguments really speak for themselves, and I believe should be eliminated from the movement as a whole.
