We've grown up hearing fairy tales. Prince charming shows up, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Just like that.
We grow up thinking that it is going to happen to us. The man of our dreams is going to show up on our doorstep, and that will be it.
Well, as it turns out, that's not how the world works. Relationships aren't fairy tales; they're not perfect. They require work and effort by both people.
So, when do we know that the relationship is worth the effort?
I've heard tons of people tell me that they get butterflies when their significant other walks into the room and that the first time that they kissed, they actually felt sparks.
They felt magic.
So, where the hell is my magic?
I've dated. I've loved. I've been heartbroken. There's just one thing missing. The magic.
At this point, you're probably thinking, "Wow, what a naive girl. There is no such thing as fairy tales." I promise I know. I am not expecting prince charming to show up on my doorstep and whisk me away. I am not expecting some movie-like scene where the guy gets the girl, and they live happily ever after.
What I want is something that is worth the effort. That's the magic. I want to feel butterflies when I see him. I want to feel the electricity when we kiss for the first time.
Everybody should find someone that brings out the magic. I refuse to settle for anything less.
I won't stop looking for the magic.
To me, magic is waking up to someone and being so happy to be next to them.
Magic is wanting to solve our problems constructively because we can't stand to be mad at each other instead of choosing to fight.
Magic is getting big news, good or bad, and that person is the first person that you want to tell.
Magic is wanting to build a life with that person and being more than willing to compromise on certain things.
Magic is knowing that you can't go another day without them.
Why settle for anything less than this? The romantic side of me truly believes that there is someone out there for everyone who will bring out this magic. So, why settle for anything less? Why would we want to submit ourselves to a life of anything less than pure happiness?
It's out there. Don't stop looking until you find it.
