Stop idolizing celebrities. Actually, no- allow me to rephrase that. Stop placing celebrities on a pedestal so damn high that you think they can't fall. Nobody is exempt from mistake-mistaking- including those we look up to most. As glamorize as they or the press leads us to believe their lives are, there is always more than what meets the eye. Celebrities only allow us to see so much while keeping the rest of their lives private-just like us. Look up to celebrities and admire them all you want, but never ignore the fact that they are human. They're going to make mistakes.
The version of themselves that is portrayed on social media and even walking down the red carpet is very seldom the most real, authentic version of themselves. We often to forget that. The 'us' that we allow the public to see is different than the 'us' that truly lives within our soul. No matter how much of an open book we'd like to consider ourselves, there will always be pages of our stories that remain untouched. I don't think there's any person on this earth that keeps every single page of their story wide open for the entire world to view, and famous people are no different. We could keep the truth hidden for so long, but it's simply just a matter of time before it gets exposed and it isn't always that pretty. It's up to us as individuals to decide whether or not we still value those people even after those secrets are told.
One of the issues with human nature appears to be the shear disconnect between famous people and the average joe. Why is it that we believe somebody with 10k followers on Instagram possesses greater worth than one with 75? What creates this disconnect? One may be justified in saying society is to blame for this generation's ignorance. Perhaps, it is the false sense of security that is often derived from a seemingly substantial following. Society causes us to think that celebrities lead perfect lives, yet neglect to document their struggles or flaws. In the event that their secrets are exposed, they are automatically deemed as terrible role models and often face harsh judgement. Just because they spend the majority of their lives in the public eye, does not mean their lives are perfect. Society skews our overall perception of what is important in life and as a result, we think those who appear to be higher up than us cannot fall. We are so shocked by the news of a celebrities struggling or experiencing some type of hardship that we forget the simple fact that they're human too. Part of being human involves making mistakes.
Eliminate the notion in your brain that tells you that celebrities are more "fortunate" or "better off" than you. When it comes right down to it, we're all the same. We're all built from the same mold. Shorten that gap. Remove the glamorous lifestyle and expensive exterior, and they're exactly like us. Why? They're human. Once you're finally able to recognize that, you'll realize that the only true difference between us and them is the type of lifestyle they lead. Everything else is just decoration.
