We often do not consider how our actions will affect other people. We say and do things that come off inconsiderate and without care for others feelings.
I notice this especially when we talk about our problems. We love to over exaggerate how we are feeling. We love to say we have disorders that we don’t.
“My anxiety is at an time high because I have a lot going on right now.” No, you are feeling stressed and anxious. You do not have an anxiety disorder.
“My depression is really bad right now.” No, you are upset and feeling bad right now. You do not have depression.
These are your moods or how you are feeling at the moment, it is not what you feel all day everyday. Saying these types of things is disrespectful to those individuals who actually do have these disorders. You do not get to glorify these disorders because you are feeling different than your normal self for a day or because finals week is coming up.
These are actual disorders that people are diagnosed with and struggle with every day. The least you could do is stop overdramatizing your problems because I guarantee people with these disorders feel much worse than you are claiming you feel in that moment.
Of course, you are supposed to feel these types of emotions. The problem comes when they are continuous. If you do not feel them more often than not, you should not be making statements like the above.
You feel anxious, you do not have anxiety. You feel sad, you do not have depression. Plain and simple. Stop using actual disorders as descriptors of your momentary feelings.
