We’ve all seen the videos. We’ve seen her rise to fame practically overnight. But what is not talked about is who is actually behind this infamous meme, Danielle Bregoli. The internet’s obsession with short-lived memes bring some light to a very obscure world of violence and oppression in the mainstream media today. The problem is not with the overnight “success” of Danielle’s online presence, but how America’s obsession with this 13-year-old girl casts a very large, very dark shadow over true news involving 13-year-olds who have the potential to change the world. Yes, change the world.
What started as a meme from her guest appearance on Dr. Phil has turned into a Billboard Top 100 anthem, a clothing line, and multiple guest appearances. Danielle has not only completely capitalized on her glaring lack of education and her irreparable ignorance to classy behavior, but she has shown that disrespecting your mother can take you places- and America is cheering her on as she does.
Since appearing on a show that was supposed to fix her behavior, she has made no effort to alter her behavior. She has America behind her, pushing her forward, permitting her to believe this behavior will bring reward instead of any real consequence.
Elsewhere in the world, Tanishq Abraham, a 13-year-old Student from Sacramento, California has completed 3 community college degrees and has been accepted to two University of California schools. There, he plans on studying biomedical engineering, in hopes of becoming both a doctor and a medical researcher by the time he turns 18.
The youth that is glorified in this country is a direct result of the media’s ability to turn anyone into some type of hero because they have amassed 5.1 million followers on Instagram. A boy who could very well be a future leader in this country is overshadowed by a girl who can’t even so much as speak coherently enough to be properly understood.
It does little to motivate young children to work hard in school and to build real futures for themselves when they are subjected to the media, finding justification that, believe it or not, you do not need to be educated and a respecting child to be “successful”.
Allowing Danielle Bregoli to profit off this type of erroneous behavior, whether it be physically clapping when she refers to the entire audience of Dr. Phil’s show as “hoes,” or making royalties on her catch phrase, allows her to use this facetious persona in a position of power. Instead of giving this child a voice, instead of giving other children of America who bully, and disrespect, and commit crimes of violence against their own blood, a voice, give children who have IQs higher than that of Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein a voice instead.
