You know, it is really frustrating sometimes when older generations (yes, I am talking to you Generation X and Baby Boomers) try to describe who millennials are as people. I know for me personally I am tired of hearing the following:
"Millennials are obsessed with taking pictures/videos of every single thing that happens during the day."
Umm, well wouldn't you love to look back at all the great times you've had!
"Millennials always want gratification for everything they do."
But Generation Y are the first to speak to whoever is in charge when things don't go their way.
"Why is it so hard for you millennials to get jobs after college?"
Because companies expect you to have five years of experience fresh out of college.
"Millennials over share on social media."
We like to keep in touch with our friends from the past and even possibly make new ones.
"What is with your binge-watching culture."
Well, one we are too busy to watching our favorite shows when they come on and two, we love to watch everything at once because who likes to wait from week to week for new episodes?
"Millennial music is terrible."
I'm sorry but we have some pretty iconic music. Nirvana, TLC, Biggle, Tupac, Britney, Justin, Taylor, Beyonce, Gaga, Amy. Do I need to continue?!
"Millennials can only take information in small chunks."
Who likes to sit there and read three long paragraphs of nothingness?
"Millennials can't make tough decisions."
We are given so many options in everything in we do. From grocery shopping (30 different bags to chips, really?!), to cars, to choices in schools, to what to wear. So yes, it is sometimes hard for us to make very tough decisions that can effect our lives.
AND FINALLY..."Why are millennials always broke?"
We have to pay for student loans, rent, car payments, groceries and other necessities....those prices do add up!
Those are some pretty tough criticisms if you think about it. So please, older generations just give us a break and let us live our lives.
Sincerely,
Millennials
