It seems that we as humans are always pitting ourselves against one another. Of course, we're naturally competitive, that much is true, but even then, what's it worth?
To compare yourself to someone else is to look at them and say "I wish I could be who they are, and have what they have." That's worth nothing. What's wrong with just being yourself, handling your business, and making sure you're being the best "you" possible? There should never be a moment where you're second guessing yourself, your decisions, and what your goals are, because someone else may have the same aspirations or have already gotten there.
Clear your mind and understand that we all walk different paths. We have had different opportunities and have taken many different journeys in our lifetimes to get to the places we are, and everyone should understand that. Know that your life is different than Joe's. Your life is different than Sara's. You are your own unique person, so stop comparing yourself to someone who is their own person as well.
Theodore Roosevelt once said that "Comparison is a thief of joy," and that's the point blank truth about the situation. When you compare where you are to someone else, or compare your journey to someone else's, you second guess yourself in every way possible, and you shouldn't do that at all. Instead, be proud of where you've come from. Be proud of the leaps and bounds you've taken and are taking.
The only person you should compare yourself to is the person looking back at you in the mirror, because that's your biggest competition. Always.
