They say that, in life, we only get one shot. Everyone says this a lot, but not a lot of people consider it when contemplation their actions. It’s a rather weird concept because some of us don’t necessarily take this one shot to reach our full potential in life. We use our time instead to doubt, fear, or be anxious. I had an old friend once ask me if I was scared about leaving to go somewhere where I didn’t know anyone or know what to expect. I answered the question with an automatic yes. He then said, “Well, then you need to go.” That has stuck with me so much lately and it really takes on a mindset that we should be living in. Here are just a couple of ways to pursue more of what you fear.
1. Ask yourself if you’re scared.
This can apply to traveling, taking on a new profession, going to college, or anything else. If your answer to this question is "yes," then you need to pursue it. Many times, we don’t pursue the things that tear at our heartstrings because we have such a deep desire, but we are afraid of failing. Be afraid and proceed forward.
2. Face your fear straight in the eye.
I noticed this recently with my fear of heights – this example may seem a little childish to you, but it’s real. I have come to realize that fear can be a person. If you confront it, it can either go one of two ways. It can defeat you or you can defeat it. This has happened with my fear of heights. The more activities that I do with heights (ride roller coasters, rock climb, etc.), the less fear I have towards it. This small concept can apply to all areas of fear.
3. Alter the way that you think.
It’s easier said than done and I realize that. However, our thoughts control our actions. I have been a strong fan of what is called “The Secret.” My brother introduced me to this concept and got me into reading the book and watching the movie. The ultimate idea of this “secret” is that our thoughts become things. We essentially bring about everything that comes into our life. Just take a second to think about that. You attract the people who come into your life, you attract the attitude that you will have for the day, and many of us attract the fear that we instill in our lives. We instill fear in our lives because we are constantly thinking about it, allowing it to ultimately control our minds.
Change your mindset and just think of these small concepts. If you can attract everything into your life by simply changing your thoughts and attitude, how far can you get when it comes to pursuing the things that you fear?
