Are you bored in your room with nowhere to go? Is it too cold outside for you to walk or enjoy nature? Whether you are at home or in a college dorm, there are always different ways to make the best of your own room, beside sleeping all day. Going on your computer to take Buzzfeed quizzes and reading Odyssey articles are fun for, if anything, an hour. But what then? Here are some suggestions on how to make the best of your free time!
1. Netflix
Time to throw away the most basic option! Netflix has so many TV shows and movies for you to watch! "Friends" and "The Office" is on it; that pretty much describes how pretty perfect Netflix is. Besides those great classics, there plenty of underrated movies to pick from, as well as interesting documentaries! Before you give up on watching videos, make sure to look at these Netflix lists and make sure that you don't miss out on these amazing movies!
2. DIY Projects
Bring out your inner child and make some DIY projects from Pinterest. Pinterest has hundreds upon thousands of different activities varying from baking cakes with unique designs to making cute bookmarks. The most important thing to remember is that everybody makes mistakes. In fact, the majority of people who attempt to make these picture-perfect DIYs end up having a somewhat similar yet extremely messy product. Remember that the original picture usually is the 100th take that the creator had created. Once you get the hang of painting or baking, you'll notice that your results will become more appeasing and/or edible.
3. Re-do Your Room
It gets tiring to see the same old room. Why not change it? This is the one part of your life where you have the power to make the changes. Move the furniture around. Find which clothes you don't wear and give it to Goodwill. Organize all of your papers and throw out the junk that you once thought was important to keep. You can even make some money by finding old textbooks or random jewelry and selling it on Amazon. At the end of the day, you will feel refreshed and comfortable in your "new" place.
4. Try Meditation/Yoga
Nobody is watching. Plus, meditation will help you to get rid of that nagging feeling of boredom as you inhale and exhale to peaceful music, accepting the solitude surrounding you. It's always god to give some time to just yourself, with no distractions.
5. Play Around with Beauty Products
It's always fun to attempt to do beauty stuff, even though you constantly fail. There are so many different types of techniques for different parts of your body. You could paint your nails, do stuff with your hair, practice crazy make-up looks, try homemade facial masks or other spa things, do your eyebrows, etc. None of these projects do any harm and if you mess up a nail or the mask just doesn't work, who cars? It' the perfect time to make mistakes.
6. Practice your Interests
Start getting better at what you think you would like to do or already enjoy. Write short stories or philosophical papers, or even write a song. Practice singing or painting the fruit that you have in your pantry. Take artsy pictures are Tumblr-worthy. Sleep! If you still are stuck on what to do, think of how you like to learn when at school (eg. solve logical problems, asking questions). Once you think of those actions, either think again or Google different subjects that you could learn about and apply your talents on something new.
7. Read Books
Reading something that is not online is always a safe option. With informative nonfiction books, the research is thorough and the author tends to be passionate on the topic. Fictional books are always a great option, especially because that is what seems to be the only place nowadays that your imagination can truly roam free. Also, you aren't staring at a screen, which is always a pleasure.
8. Dance Part-taaaaayyy
If all else fails, throw up some awesome music and dance your heart away! Be basic and use a hairbrush as a microphone in front of a mirror. Remember that every spin you make also helps you lose a couple of calories. Unless you hate music, there is no excuse to get off your computer and start moving to your faves.
When there is nothing to do at home, it can get pretty claustrophobic. The best way to overcome boredom is to not be at that mindset. Only you have the power to make this day fun and productive. Hopefully these options will help guide you to be appreciative of your day at home!
