Tucked away in the lower corner of the Dining Commons is 91.3 WSHL, Stonehill College's radio station where any student (regardless of their major) can have their own show and do practically whatever they'd like to for two hours. If that came as a surprise to you... well, you're not the only one.

It never ceases to amaze me just how many people don't know that Stonehill has a radio station. As the Promotions Director for WSHL, and having been involved since fall of my freshman year, I just about consider the radio to be my baby. I love to talk about it whenever I get the chance, I'm quick to defend it whenever someone criticizes it and I'm in complete denial of the idea that "radio is dying out." More people just need to know how much of a hidden gem it is.

So, to do just that, 91.3 WSHL participated in World College Radio Day this past Friday.

November 4 marked the sixth annual College Radio Day, where hundreds of college stations across the world come together and celebrate the medium of college radio. Not only is it a great fundraising tool, but College Radio Day also raises awareness of various student-run college stations across the world by encouraging people who would normally not listen to do so.

For 24 hours, WSHL had a completely student-run broadcast - shamelessly kicked off by my roommate and myself. From midnight to 2 AM, we played some of our favorite songs, had our friends listen and call in, took requests, did prize giveaways and more. Perhaps it's because we aggressively advertised prior to our show, but we had a surprising amount of people tune in, making it all the more worthwhile and fun. Besides the entertainment aspect, it was great experience for someone interested in pursuing this field quite like myself. How many students can say that they've successfully broadcasted live on the air to an audience of that size?

So much preparation went into organizing Stonehill's College Radio Day, and I could not be more proud of the work my fellow E-Board members and myself put in. It's moments like these that make me incredibly glad to have stepped out of my comfort zone freshman year and joined this club.

I can't emphasize enough just how much fun it is to have your own show on 91.3 WSHL. If you have an interest in music, sports or even talking, then you should absolutely give it a chance.

You won't be sorry.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
