Recently, I have seen high school seniors touring this beautiful school that I call home. Seeing these wide-eyed students explore this campus caused me to flashback to my own college process. The second I entered the main entrance of Stonehill College, I knew this was the place for me before even stepping out of the car. I saw people walking around with smiles on their faces, people holding doors for each other, and sensed a community unlike any other institution. Here are a few aspects of Stonehill College that are remarkably special:
The Campus:
The amount of time and effort people put into making this school look beautiful is astounding, and it shows. Every morning I walk outside my door and see beautiful foliage, the greenest grass I have ever seen, and the centerpiece and focal point of Stonehill, the house on the hill: Donahue. How could you not love this aesthetic? If you happen to be walking to the brand new Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex late at night, you might even see the sunset right over W.B. Mason Stadium, which you will then see on every Stonehill student's Instagram. It is difficult to be unhappy when you go to a school that looks like a glorified park.
The People:
From the teachers to the friends you will make at Stonehill, everyone cares about your well-being. I have created bonds with people here who will be my friends for the rest of my life. You could be 30-feet away from a building and a stranger will hold the door for you, which is expected! Students have smiles on their faces and seem eager to learn but have fun as well. You get to know more people on a personal level since the student body is small, thus there is an essence of family and community at Stonehill. For example, during the recent bomb scare, I found myself texting friends and telling the guys I live with that I love them and to stay safe. In a time of uncertainty and fright, we managed to express how much we care about each other, and that is the underlying essence of being a Stonehill student.
The Education:
What we learn in the classroom at Stonehill prepares us to be better professionals, but also better people. The faculty and staff care about how we hold ourselves as individuals because that reflects on Stonehill. You form one-on-one relationships with your professors who are great references and advocates to have in your corner. The intimate class setting allows you to express your opinion and voice your knowledge of the class material, which is unique. Once I graduate, I have no doubt that I will be prepared to tackle whatever challenges I will face in the professional world thanks to what I have learned as a Stonehill College student.
Being a Skyhawk is something I pride myself on every day and I can not imagine myself being anywhere else. This is home for me and 2,400 of my closest friends and I could not be prouder to be a student at Stonehill College.
