I'm Still Proud Of America

We are still the People.

I'm Still Proud Of America

This Election Day, I did what any millennial would have done - I did my civic duty, headed straight for the polls, and cast my vote. I stayed up until one in the morning, anxiously awaiting the Pennsylvania votes to be counted. I finally did have to crash, but I woke up to Facebook, Twitter, Odyssey, and every other news outlet erupting with the news that Donald Trump would be leading the United States of America for the next four years. Sadly, though, I also woke up to the news that fellow Americans were assembling, screaming, and marching, all in protest of Mr. Trump's victory.

Please, please listen when I say this. Just because you have "the right" to do something, does not make it the right thing to do.

As it says in Proverbs 19:21, "You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail."

I don't think that Donald Trump winning was a mistake. He had every odd stacked against him, every prediction was against him, but he still won. Despite who you or anyone else voted for, Donald Trump is our president, and we owe God our ears to listen and trust Him as Mr. Trump leads our country.

Ladies, listen to me. The things that Trump has said, I agree, are unsettling, offensive, and upsetting. But your worth does not come from the words of any mortal man. Our father, the King of Kings, has said plainly that you are an heir to the throne. Your children are heirs, and we are all just passing through this hateful world. You don't need any man to validate you because you have a Father that adores you.

Millennials, our generation has a bad reputation for being irrational and entitled. Are you going to change those stereotypes? Are you going to spread love and positivity wherever you are? The President doesn't define your ability to show love to the LGBT community. He doesn't define your right to treat women with respect. We are the only ones who can redefine what we represent.

At the end of the day, Mr. Donald Trump is going to be our president. The sun is still going to rise and set where it always has. God is still going to be unfailing in his love. And America is still one of the greatest countries in the world, and I'm so glad to be a part of it.

Our President doesn't have to represent us as a country. He is just one figurehead, and we are millions. We all have our own decisions to make. We are in control of how loving and accepting we are. We are still in control of what happens to this country. We are still the People.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
