Yes, I Still Eat Food Geared Towards Kids

No, I don’t feel bad about it.

Yes, I Still Eat Food Geared Towards Kids

Sometimes I make jokes about the fact that I still eat Gushers. I say, “Yes I am an adult. Yes, I just ate five packs of gushers. I do not regret anything.” Most of the time this is playful, but sometimes I feel like I genuinely need to stand up for myself because people think it’s immature for me to be eating food geared towards kids. It’s just food!

Whenever I eat at the dining hall for lunch at school, 9/10 times I end up eating cereal. I’ve had people ask me why I would choose Lucky Charms over Raisin Bran or Special K. Oh I don’t know, Nancy, why do you choose to eat macaroni with hot dogs in it? My food choices are the same as any food choice you make. I eat what I want because I want to eat it. It’s simple.

Growing up, my mom limited my sugar intake because I was very hyper, and now that I can make my own food decisions, I can choose to eat sugary foods because I know how to eat them in moderation, and how to balance the sugar out with fruits and vegetables. As a kid, I just wanted sugar. I feel as though that now I can eat all the foods I feel I may have missed out on because now I understand what eating too much can do to your body.

Now, just because I might prefer chicken nuggets over a steak, that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy steak. It’s two completely different worlds. It’s just food. Stop criticizing me because I’d rather eat Trix Yogurt instead of Greek Oikos.

I’m not bothering anyone by eating my fruit snacks, and I still maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising and eating balanced meals throughout the day. Excuse me for wanting to consume something fun every once in a while.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
