Sticking Up For Quite People Everywhere

Although we may not speak, it definitely doesn't mean that we don't have opinions, or things we could say.

"A happy life must be to a great extent a quiet life, for it is only in an atmosphere of quiet that true joy dare lives." Bertrand Russell

I'm sure we have someone our lives that we classify as, "quite." That person that doesn't talk much, is kind of awkward, and minds their own business. Most of the time these people are forgotten about, and you just happen to think about them when they're not there anymore. Today, I'm here to speak on behalf of those people, to tell you truly what is going on in their seemingly quite personalities, because I am one of them. Typically, us quiet people are seen as, less than, simply because we are too quite to stick up for ourselves. In fact, we probably have more going in our heads than you do. While others may spend their time being social, we allow our minds to wonder and imagine varies scenarios in our minds. We overthink things. We think of the hundreds of ways things could go, and then afterwards how they could of went different, or in our minds, better. We're socially awkward. When we don't reply when you speak to us, it's not because we're ignoring you, we're simply trying to figure out how we should respond, or even if we even should respond. We try our best to be nice and friendly, and sometimes we actually want to have a decent conversation with you. (it can be lonely for us too ya know) But like everyone else, at the end of the day, we would much rather be binge watching Netflix. So on behalf of quiet people everywhere, here are some things to remember.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, even though we may not speak, definitely doesn't mean that we don't have opinions, or things we could say.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, just because we're quiet, doesn't mean we can't think for ourselves, so don't speak for us.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, don't look down on us, we're people too and we still have feelings.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, you hurt us and break us more than you think.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, don't underestimate us, just because we're not obnoxiously loud doesn't mean that we can't stick up for ourselves.

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, apologize to us, even though we may not say anything when you accidentally hit or shove us, we can still feel pain

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, don't ignore us or not include just because we're not saying anything

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, don't be afraid of us, talk to us

On behalf of quiet people everywhere, don't treat us like crap, we did not always choose to be the quiet one

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
