I am sure you all have heard this speech for as long as you could talk, but the Earth is very precious and we have to learn how to take care of it. Everyone has a different part in conserving the world but one person could make a difference. Here is a crash course on some simple things anyone can do to do their part for the Earth.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Reduce:
Buy products in bulk, it saves money and produces less packaging.
DO NOT use disposable utensils, such as forks, spoons, paper plates, and styrofoam cups. Buy durable items that are meant to last a long time. It will save you money in the long run.
Understand expiration dates. Make sure you will use all of the product before buying it.
Reuse:
Reuse your plastic grocery bags or take cloth ones to the grocery store.
"One man's trash is another man's treasure" definitely applies here. Sell your old stuff to charity or at a yard sale.
Carry a reusable water bottle.
Recycle:
Look for the recycle sign on products before you buy them. This can be done at the office or at home.
Make sure you know what can and can not be recycled.
Lower your carbon footprint
Public transportation is one way to lower your carbon footprint. Carpooling and riding your bike are also great options. Walking and riding your bike are the best options because you do not use any energy that pollutes the earth.
Electricity is something that be conserved very easily. Turn off lights and appliances when you leave the room, this will save more energy then you think.
Change your light bulbs to CFL's which means compact fluorescent light bulbs. They are wired a different way, so they produce 70% less energy then incandescent bulbs.
If you only get one thing out of this article, I hope it will be that you as an individual can help decrease the amount of pollution in the Earth. Even doing just one of the things mentioned above will help.
