Over the past couple of months I have been notorious for going through life without my phone, whether it is because I shattered it in a snap chat accident or just forgetting it at the house. One night as I was sitting at our team dinner with my phone sitting at home, and watching everyone else around me scrolling through their social medias I started thinking, what if our phones went back to the days when all they could do was call? I believe that we would benefit from this step back in technology.
1. Be more aware of the world around us.
The world would be a much safer place if we were not glued to our phones 24/7. Although I do enjoy the YouTube videos of people walking into poles and glass doors as they are entangled in their phones, I think if we go back to the days of flip phones people will be engaged in the world around them more possibly saving a many people embarrassment and injuries.
2. More time for the friends around you.
If we went back to flip phones than our generation would be able to fully immerse them selves in the people around them. We won't have those friends that can't go a meal without looking through their Twitter feed, and this will create for closer friendship bonds.
3. Free from Facebook stalkers.
We all have them and we all know the struggle. Those people who don't have our cell phone numbers, but feel the uncontrollable urge to send us thousands of messages, even though you have never met the person before. Although we would still be able to use Facebook on laptops, this would save you from getting a notification for every random message.
4. No more boring text conversations.
I understand that texting makes it extremely convenient to have short conversation, but in our generation for some reason it is a thing that we need to be in constant communication through text 24/7. I don't know about you all but I run out of things to say everyday. If we were limited to calls it would allow absence to make the heart grow fonder and people wouldn't feel the need to have these elongated conversations.
5. Go out to find out what's going on.
If we were restricted to calls then people would actually need to leave the house and go to wherever the local hangout spot is to find out what is going on that night. We wouldn't be able to just text around asking what everyone's doing only to find out everyone else is as lost on what to do as you. At least this way when everyone gathers to see what's going on they are already out of the house and might as well find something to do at this point.
6. Learn to cope with awkward situations.
One thing I've noticed is that when people are placed in awkward situations the first thing they will do is look at their phone, to scroll aimlessly through Twitter like they are busy. Without this escape crutch, people will be forced to deal with the awkward situation in front of them. learning that most of the time it is only as awkward as you make it.
