Being a college student is anything from having an easy life. Every day is filled with assignments, and commitments to various organizations and jobs. So time itself is a pretty big deal, and can honestly compare to currency. A person can only do so much, and with this in mind when a person decides to devote their time to something, especially when they don't necessarily have to, it should be seen as a very gracious doing. Those people should also be taken very seriously and their actions not taken granted of.
In today's age people unfortunately end up taking granted a lot of the opportunities offered. I personally have found myself taking for granted things such as tutoring and office hours. Sometimes I honestly should use these resources I have, but I never do. Those volunteer tutors don't necessarily have to give their time to help teach and make sure other students understand course material. The same with professors. They do not need to give even more time out of their already busy schedule to help answer even more questions. As to why I almost never use these resources I have never really thought of it before as someone else giving time to help. I never put someone else behind the idea, and I think that led me to certain disconnects. So I urge you to think of the opportunities you have around you that maybe you haven't thought about at first. It does not need to be "official" either. Anyone offering to help is giving of their time and essentially their life to help you. There may not always be someone there that nice to offer help on whatever it is you may need help with. So respect their offering, and never take it for granted. It wouldn't hurt either to show some of that same kindness to someone you see that may be in need of some help. Keeping the kindness spreading is a good way to help build connections and character throughout a community. It takes some time sacrificing some of your own time to really understand and be capable of truly appreciating when others do it for you.
Whether it is your neighbor, best friend, classmate, or a stranger in need always treat them how you would want to be treated. If I can drive a singular message through to you it would be do not waste time! Your time and especially someone else's time. Time is one of the most important things you have and you'll never get it back. Respect your commitments, and give respect to other's commitments as well. Promote a good work ethic respecting commitments and help pass it along to others. After all we are all working towards the same future through different points in time.
