Stay In Tune

Why music is underrated.

Stay In Tune

To most people, music is just a form of entertainment or a noise to fill the room. To others, music is much more. It's funny how we interact as humans and how alike two strangers can be when given a certain topic. As you guessed, I'm going to talk about music. It's another language. It can connect two complete strangers on opposite sides of the world or it can connect two friends on a deeper level.

It's crazy how, when put together, sounds and words can change someone's life. Whether it inspires you or makes you think, it's up to you. That's the beauty of something so raw and unrelated is the fact it is open to interpretation. Knowing that there is something on this planet that has the ability to connect so many people is frightening, but at the same time comforting. Even if you are one of those people who do not completely feel the same way as some people about music, it's undeniable that music fills a void within us whether it be emotionally or just by changing the mood of a room.

We live in a world where we fight more then we get along and that's a scary thing. For something like music to allow for people to find common ground is one of those things that is over looked on so many levels. Besides that, it also shows the evolution of just how far we've come since the 19th century being that now music is easily accessible for everyone. I think I'm getting too technical but it is one of those things that does not get half the credit it deserves.

Whether you are a classical type of person or an EDM type of person, the beauty is that there is something for everyone. Everyone is able to find where they belong in a musical world, which is one of those things that makes you feel safe. To know that in a world that's so big, there is somewhere you belong and people you belong with; it is an overall place to call home. Am I saying music is home? Absolutely not, but it gives you a place to feel comfortable. Music gives you people who understand you in ways that other people may not. The beauty of that is when you can't find the words to vocalize how you feel, you can simply play a song and it's as if you poured your heart out without fully becoming vulnerable and still getting your point across. I think it is amazing how something can evolve so much yet still be the way it was. I mean, the same songs are still played now. Some things are timeless and I think it goes without saying that music is one of them. So put your favorite song on and just jam.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
