Anyone who goes to Georgia Southern University will be the first to tell you that Statesboro is a small town. At times it's charming, however, sometimes it can feel like there is not much to do. Now that I am embarking on my third year at GSU, I have really grown to love this quaint town and all of the charm that comes with it. The more you explore it, the more you will find that this town is so much more than just a college town.
Eagle Creek Brewing Company
This locally owned brewery is one of Statesboro's hidden gems. This local bar offers tours, beer tasting, and hosts free concerts. And if you are not yet of age, you can always pick up a pizza at Sugar Magnolia next door and stop by for live music and board games.
Gnat's Landing
This local sports bar always has something going on whether it's karaoke, live music, or trivia night. Their food is awesome too!
Gentilly Trail
Looking for an outdoor adventure? Check out the trail that starts on Gentilly Rd. This trail runs two and a half miles each way (making it five miles total), and you get to see some beautiful parts of Statesboro that you probably would not see otherwise.
Botanical Gardens
In case you didn't know, Georgia Southern's botanical gardens are beautiful! On a nice day, this spot is the perfect place to hang out for a picnic or a photoshoot.
The County Fair
No fall in the south would be complete without a county fair, and Statesboro delivers every year. The Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair is fully equipped with funnel cakes, hog races, roller coasters, and magic shows. This is by far one of my favorite things to do with my friends every year.
Sweetheart Circle
Georgia Southern's claim to fame is always my go to spot on a beautiful day. Located at the heart of campus, it is the perfect place to set up a hammock, get some studying done, and work on your tan (pro tip: always keep a a blanket/eno in the trunk of your car. You never know when an opportunity could present itself).
GSU Events
Georgia Southern always has something going on. Whether it's a football game, a play, or a concert, GSU's events never disappoint (and they're often free or discounted for students!).
Downtown
Although Statesboro is a very small town, the downtown area is actually super cute! You can see a play or art exhibit at the Averitt Center, go to the farmer's market on Saturday morning, stop by 3 Tree Coffee Roasters for a cup of coffee (this is an awesome place to cram for finals by the way) and shop the local boutiques.
Savannah/The Beaches
Okay, obviously this one is not technically in Statesboro, however, part of what drew me to Georgia Southern is the proximity of the campus to Savannah and the beach. Savannah is so beautiful and historic, and there is always something to do there. So if you're in Statesboro and all else fails, Savannah and Tybee Island are always a short drive away.
