'Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil Fans,' Starco Will Be Canon, And We Should've Seen It Coming A Long Time Ago

I can't believe that I didn't figure this out much sooner and that I'm just now putting it down in words, but it's better late than never (basically what the rate of Starco has been up to this point)!

Starco

It's been a long time since we've gotten pure Starco moments, especially since the events of "Curse of the Blood Moon," but the most recent eps this week, from "Doop Doop" to "Gone Baby Gone," really were a huge breath of fresh air for us longtime Starco shippers! Now, what if I told you almost exactly how Starco is going to become canon by the end of the series? Granted, my prediction/theory may prove to be off by a few technicalities that will undoubtedly occur (hence my phrasing "almost exactly"), but so would be everyone else's predictions out there.

Something to note is that I started to put these pieces together a week or so after "Curse of the Blood Moon" but have not gotten myself down to write all of this down, as every time I try to, new eps come out, derailing my original thoughts about this. Luckily, however, I'm actually glad I waited to do this, because these new eps put a bit of a new spin on my prediction as to what will happen in terms of Starco, as it may be more literal than I originally thought it would be.

Please keep in mind that I did not come up with the overall "theory" you're about to read. The person who originally came up with this idea, through her "SVTFOE" drawing vids, is a Tumblr artist found by "aellira.tumblr.com" and I'm only piggybacking off of them.

(You can see both parts here in this PMV on YouTube by "Cheergirl714Lovely": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bWU_Z-NlyY or this one by "someday MB" that includes an all-too-fitting Starco comic at the end by "starrydraws.tumblr.com": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zeq7yws1Kw...)

Anyway, now on to the overall "theory" (a word I'm using loosely here) that these vids have been crafting… Both Starco drawing vids by aellira piece together the first two parts of Regina Spektor's song "The Call" (from "The Chronicles of Narnia" series) and how those lyrics connect to Starco leading up to the point of the season three midseason finale.

Here is the first vid has the song's first verse:

"It started out as a feeling,

Which then grew into a hope,

Which then turned into a quiet thought,

Which then turned into a quiet word,

And then that word grew louder and louder,

'til it was a battle cry.

I'll come back when you call me,

No need to say goodbye."

The lyrics, accompanied by the show's appropriate scenes within the vid, seem to detail Star's arc of her developing romantic feelings for Marco and how they later prove to be causing more harm than good: from their dance under the Blood Moon's light, to the reveal of her secret crush (to us), all the way to her internal realization and growing jealousy over seeing him and Jackie together as a couple. Sure, these lines might be generic enough to apply to any case of fiction, be it literature, movies, or TV, but that's where the next part of the song comes into play…

Now, the second verse:

"Just because everything's changing,

Doesn't mean it's never been this way before.

All you can do is try to know who your friends are,

As you head off to the war.

Pick a star on the dark horizon,

And follow the light.

You'll come back when it's over,

No need to say goodbye.

You'll come back when it's over,

No need to say goodbye."

These lines now switch the perspective from Star to Marco, as we the viewers get to mainly see Marco's arc unfold after realizing his feelings and learning how to deal with them his own way: from his grief over Star's departure that brings him to her (temporary) rescue, to his disconnect from his previous life on Earth (and his friends and Jackie) that brings him back to her, to his appointment as her squire, to his own confrontation with his feelings head-on after seeing her and Tom (back) together as a couple, to his worry over losing her to the magic realm, all the way to his overall dwindling involvement in Star's immediate plans for Mewman/monster integration.

So, as you can see from that last paragraph of a sentence that Starco's storyline is hitting the nails (in the song) a lot more within the second third… Now, we only have the last third to go:

"Now we're back to the beginning:

It's just a feeling and no one knows yet,

But just because they can't feel it too,

Doesn't mean that you have to forget.

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger,

'til they're before your eyes.

You'll come back when they call you,

No need to say goodbye.

You'll come back when they call you,

No need to say goodbye."

Now, I started to see something like this part of the song come into play after "Curse of the Blood Moon" aired (albeit a week late) with the line, "Now we're back to the beginning," when Star and Marco are literally (mentally) transported back to the memory of when they danced. Afterwards, when they are brought back to the present and are questioned about their feelings, Marco says, "I see… my best friend," to which Star (I think hesitantly) replies, "Me, too."

So, it would be at that point, given by the line, "It's just a feeling and no one knows yet," that I could argue that Star still (consciously) has feelings for Marco, while Marco is going to be given a bit more of a push for his feelings to resurface. Skip forward to the lines, "Let your memories grow stronger and stronger // 'til they're before your eyes," and I would think this is shown by the capes that both Star and Marco have made each other in "The Knight Shift," both of which are sewn with patches depicting their memories on them! This, for me, was a very clear sign.

At least, that's what I initially thought, right before "Doop Doop," as well as synopses for future eps changed everything about the song's last part's meaning in terms of Starco.

"Now we're back to the beginning // It's just a feeling and no one knows yet"

In "Doop Doop," now that Star is finally free from her responsibilities on Mewni, she doesn't know what she wants and prolongs her trip with Tom, and after Tom gives the space ("break") she needs, she decides straightaway to go to Marco's house on Earth, which seems to bring this show full-circle in how she was sent to Earth against her will in the very first ep but now chooses to go to Earth in order to figure things out as a free teenager again, including her feelings.

"But just because they can't feel it too // Doesn't mean that you have to forget"

This may refer back to my initial connection of "Curse of the Blood Moon" to the song, or it could be connected to "Britta's Tacos," when Marco and Jackie finally clear the air about the break-up and she gives him the "go-ahead" to be with Star (one day), planting the seed in his mind to revisit his old feelings for Star, which he thought was because of the Blood Moon, and to eventually (soon) bring this up with her, who very likely hasn't forgotten her own for him.

"Let your memories grow stronger and stronger // 'til they're before your eyes"

This pair of lines could be analyzed in two ways, though leaning more so on the latter analysis… 1) The long-awaited ep of the season "Beach Day" proves to be a turning-point in Star's arc in how to direct her life by creating her own happiness, as Marco suggests, instead of relying on one that turned out to be a fake she had promised her past self, and by extension, creating her own memories with Marco right by her side.

2) Given the synopsis for the future ep "Mama Star," which reads, "Star, Marco, Janna, and Tom lose their memories as they traverse amnesia-inducing waters to get back to Mewni," then this heavily implies that once they gain back their own memories lost to the magic realm and/or waters surrounding the magic sanctuary, they will also gain back the Blood Moon Ball memory that the Severing Stone took away, and by extension, the idea that their feelings weren't caused by the Blood Moon. It might even involve their kiss photo from "Booth Buddies," but that might be wishful thinking! (This would be a more obvious way of looking at the song lyric.)

"You'll come back when they call you // No need to say goodbye"

This could be a callback to "Doop Doop," in that Star did come back not too long after Marco left for Earth to be there for his family, but given the synopsis for "Ready, Aim, Fire" that says, "Star arrives in Mewni as a soldier attacks Monster Castle," "they" (in the song) would refer to both the Mewmans and the monsters who need to be protected from Mina (the very likely "soldier"), prompting Star and Marco to come back to Mewni. And all of this would be a large enough step forward (for the show and Starco) to the series finale "Cleaved," in which "Star and Marco face their final conflict," including the one within their hearts, closing out "The Call"…

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
