If you are at all familiar with Creighton's campus, you will have noticed there's a new business on the corner of 24th and Chicago Street! It is the second, and newest, location of Star Deli.

After a few visits, a couple of sandwiches, and a vanilla latte, I was hooked. I knew I had to find out more about this new sandwich shop, and I decided to talk with the owner, Jay.

For seven years, Jay worked as a chef in fine dining restaurants that were located in Okoboji, St. Louis, and Omaha. He cooked a variety of foods, such as hand-made, organic pasta, and worked in a plethora of restaurants, from a french cafe to 801 Chophouse.

Once an aspiring entrepreneur, Jay knew he wanted to open and run his own business. He took the equipment he had, took a leap of faith, and opened up Star Deli in Benson.

Star Deli is a contemporary artisan restaurant that also has a display of artwork. The owner's wife, Laurie, has a degree in painting from The University of Nebraska at Omaha, and has created all of the paintings that are displayed in the deli.

All of the artwork that is hung up in the deli is for sale! This is a great spot for artists to let their work get seen, appreciated, and sold.

Star Deli's most popular sandwich is the Cubano which has smoked ham, pork loin, swiss cheese and dijon aioli. The menu features house-smoked meat sandwiches, vegetarian sandwiches, grilled cheese, salads, and soups, and even different drips of coffee.

I decided to go with The Long Beach Club, which is filled with warm turkey, bacon, and a bunch of veggies, but sandwiches aren't the only thing they are cooking up.

Whether you are relaxing with an americano and a book, studying and eating a snack, or grabbing a meal with your friends, Star Deli has the modern twist that will have you coming back soon.

At their new location on 24th and Chicago, Star Deli will be having a Grand Opening on Saturday, September 26th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. the band Getchasum will be performing on the patio. If you like free food, free drinks, and music, you should be at Star Deli on Saturday!
