Standing United In A World Torn Apart

Even in the worst of tragedies, we can stand together in support of one another.

Standing United In A World Torn Apart
Los Angeles Times

Violence has taken the spotlight these past two weeks. Tragedy has shaken the country to its core and there are so many questions left unanswered. How could someone find it in themselves to commit such terrible acts? Why did innocent people lose their lives over their lifestyle? My heart aches for everyone involved in the Orlando shooting and I will continue to pray for their friends and family as they heal after such a shocking, heart wrenching event.

As the news broke and everyone turned on their televisions for updates, I couldn’t help but notice that in the midst of something so terrible, something so beautiful came from it. Love and support poured from every outlet and people immediately did what they could to support those wounded or effected. Behind every act of terrorism is the desire to break us, and we have yet again proven that despite personal beliefs or disagreements, we will stand united behind one another. In the worst of times, we come together to help each other and show we will not be broken.

There are days that I lose faith in humanity, but when I see the community we form as we all mourn together, I can’t help but think there is a vast amount of goodness still out there. As a country, we will wrap our arms around those who have been wounded and make sure we get them back on their feet. It is my sincere wish that those who lost their lives can sense the amount of love being sent with them as they go.

The world we live in is scary-- it seems like every couple of weeks there has been some unspeakable act of violence. We live in a world torn apart by hatred and radicalism, but I am comforted in the thought that despite everything, good people will stand united. We will not cower in fear, but rush forward to assist and support one another, no matter what-- we will shed tears together, hurt together, but we will not sit in fear together.

My heart goes out to Orlando. It will take time to recover, but know the country is rallying behind you in the process-- the country is grieving with you. Together, we are strong-- the worst tragedies only pull us together and make us more powerful. Love will always speak louder than the hatred behind acts of terrorism.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Fibonacci Sequence Examples: 7 Beautiful Instances In Nature

Nature is beautiful (and so is math). The last one will blow your mind.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
