Fact: College students do not sleep.
This is a well know fact and if you did not already know this, then clearly you're not in college. Sleep deprivation comes in stages and every college kid has experienced some of these stages at some point in their semester - typically around exam week. So while you could be sleeping, go ahead and amuse yourself with the stages that you're probably currently in.
Stage 1: Even when you wake up you're still tired. No amount of sleep feels fulfilling anymore; you're in a constant state of being tired. This is where the first cup of coffee for the day comes in. Wake up, make a cup, and pray that you'll get through the day.
Stage 2: Falling asleep during classes. 8 a.m. classes may seem like the hardest thing you've had to get through in your life. You try so hard to stay awake, but laying your head on your desk and dreaming about food seems like a much better thing to do.
Stage 3: Time for that second cup of coffee. Sure, it may not even be noon yet, but the only way you're getting through three more classes and a load of homework is to keep those caffeine levels high.
Stage 4: It's nap time, but you don't actually have time for a nap. This can be a difficult time for you and your friends because as much as you want to sleep, you are too busy which can make students moody. You want to be alone so you can get your work done quickly, but you also want to be around friends so you don't fall asleep on your laptop.
Stage 5: The sudden burst of energy. All of a sudden you have a few hours of energy where all your homework is done and you're ready to go out with friends, but as soon as you get out, you realize that you're actually still tired and would rather be in bed watching Netflix alone.
Stage 6: You begin to hallucinate. You laugh at everything and you keep saying things you wouldn't normally say. This won't last long, but enjoy it while you can because as soon as this stage is over, there's not much hope left.
Stage 7: Bed time! This is the stage that, even though you have spent all day being tired, you continue to lay in bed for the next 20 minutes scrolling through social media. I never said we were smart, just tired.
