Finals are upon us: Here is what to expect.

The one word that haunts all students: Finals. It sends shivers down your spine, and makes you want to curl up in a ball and cry.

Fear not! You can conquer the dreaded finals that will be coming up! Finals come in stages and we all go through them. Before the stages begin, you need to first believe in yourself.

1. Denial

The first step in the finals week process is complete denial that finals are already upon us! There is no escaping them; stop denying it and start studying!

2. Calculations

Then begins the stage where you become some sort of math God, and begin looking at how bad you can do to keep a grade up. Or how much your grade will drop if you get a zero on the final. Every point matters!

3. Procrastination

Once you get past denial and calculate just how bad on a final you can get without it hurting you too much, you still end up procrastinating on studying. You know you need to study, you just don't see any rush.

4. The Stress Out

Once you begin to study, you begin to stress out as your realize you have a lot of work to do with very little time. You feel like you are going to have a major breakdown before you even seriously begin to dive into the book.

5. Empowerment

One you get into a groove, you begin to feel like you are on top of world and that nothing can stop it. The longer you can stay in this state, the better.

6. Exhaustion

Your studying has reached the four or five hour mark, and it's probably getting late at night. You feel tired; so tired that you start to zone out. Soon, you start to forget everything! This is where coffee becomes your best friend.

7. Life is Over

You don't even care anymore, you just can't look at another vocabulary word or concept ever again. Your brain is completely fried, and you feel dead.

8. The Drag

Once you have the "life is over" stage, the rest of your studying session become a struggle as your drag your dead body to finish up the night.

9. Victory!

No matter how well (or bad) you do on the test, you will have a sense of victory once you are finally done with all of your finals. It just feels just so good to have your finals finally over with!

Make sure you are keeping yourself motivated when you are studying. Give your self a break if you can afford to do so. Give yourself a piece of candy or other treat of your choice when you have reached your goal. Just keep encouraging yourself. For you ladies out there, I know who is always willing to give you some encouragement... Ryan Gosling!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever.
