The Stages of a Mid-Term Crisis

The brutal stages of a mid-term crisis. We have all been there, and there is no shame in that. College is sometimes like a slap in the face each and every day, but hey it is all worth it right?

Stage One: Procrastination level looking at The Emperor's New Groove references instead of the thousand things you need to be doing.

What is college without some good old fashioned, time wasting in the depths of the internet?

Stage Two: Thinking about how much you have to do and then being overwhelmed. So you take a nap instead.

Sometimes you are just so overwhelmed that you need to take a nap to process how overwhelmed you actually are. So you take your nap, but realize the problems you are sleeping on are multiplying while you rest.

Stage Three: Realizing that you can't procrastinate anymore because you have 3 mid-terms tomorrow and you are drastically under prepared.

We have all been there but now is the time to get busy.

Stage Four: Pulling an all nighter in the library only to realize you understand absolutely nothing from any of your classes at around 3:30 AM.

Do what you can do, but make sure when you aren't retaining absolutely anything, call it a night and go to bed. That will do you more good than anything at this point!

Stage Five: Walking into your first exam feeling way more prepared than you actually are.

Hey fake it 'til you make it, right? Have some confidence and it will take you as far as it can! Hopefully you studied, slept, and ate too (those things also help).

Stage Six: Listening to your professor say that after the exam to stick around because they will be starting the new chapter of material.

It is just not right to have to take a test and then learn more after.

Stage 7: Reading the first question and realizing you have absolutely no clue what this exam is even over.

Take a deep breath. Maybe it is just the first question. Read through to make sure you have an actual reason to freak out before you have a full on melt down.

Stage Eight: Finishing the last question for better or for worse.

You finished, now since there is nothing you can do about what happened. Relax, take a bath, check your grades every half hour until they are posted. Just kidding, don't do that. That is what obsessive people do, and you don't want to be one of those people (I may or may not be speaking from experience).....

Stage Nine: How you react when someone asks you how it went. You say you thought it was kind of hard. And they say they thought it was super easy.

If it makes you feel better, 90% of the time they have false confidence. At least you know you have know idea how you actually did.

Stage 10: You get your grade back and your professor has given a 15 point curve. You pass, and realize you are okay.

You got lucky this time. Just wait until you have a mean nasty professor who doesn't believe in the curve. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst my friends.

Stage 11: Survive until Finals.

College is tough, but you are tougher. So you take those mid-terms, and you rock them!! Just actually study in case stage ten doesn't happen....

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
