The Stages Of Becoming A HGTV Addict

The home and garden network is more than just a network. It is a lifestyle -- one full of twists and turns, money troubles, heartbreak, and more. While HGTV may seem like a normal channel you pass through during your television time, it is so much more than that. And to go from ambivalent to a major fan, you’ll only need a few steps.

1. The Skeptic. First, HGTV is nothing more than another channel on the television to scroll by. Yes, you’ve heard some great things about it but you haven’t truly gotten into it yet. All the names of the shows sound the same to you and you don’t think there’s any difference between them. How many shows can be dedicated to redoing houses anyway?

2. The One-Show Wonder. You’ve heard the hype on this network and have started becoming curious as to what the deal is. You’ve heard of the die hard Property Brothers fans, the Gaines family from "Fixer Upper," and the random British lady from "Love It Or List It." So you’ve begun the next step -- tuning into one of these shows and becoming pretty emotionally invested in it. You learn the names of the duo on your new show and start seeing why this network is the best out there.

3. The Pinterest Boarder. You’ve started getting into your new HGTV show -- the singular show you’ve peaked your interest in. And you notice this great device that HGTV uses -- Pinterest. What is this life changing website, you ask? When it comes to home decoration, improvement, and more, Pinterest is the go-to source. So naturally, you become quite the fan.

4. The Almost All In. You’ve decided to finally broaden your HGTV horizon. No more watching one show and one show only -- those days are over. You’re watching every show, diving into each and figuring out your favorites. Maybe you like Jonathon better than Drew or Joanna better than Chip. But you are starting to find your favorites and know the network by heart.

5. The All In Fan. You’re done for. You know all the shows and people involved, you know if the couple is going to pick the third or first house. But it’s even further than that. You know what color cabinets you’re going to want in your own house, you know what design style fits you best and what you’ll be interested in in the future. HGTV is now truly a part of you.

So after all that trouble, you’re officially an HGTV addict. Congratulations -- I’m very proud of you. It certainly is a thrill and you will never get bored of it. Who knows- your learned skills may even come in handy in your own home!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
