We've all been there. You're browsing Netflix for the next show to watch, and you finally settle down with one. Maybe it's "Gossip Girl," or "Grey's Anatomy." Or perhaps it's "Criminal Minds" or "LOST." No matter the show, we go into it skeptical and unsure--until we find that one character that, for lack of a better phrase, makes us feel, "some type of way." And from that moment on, we know that it's going to be a long journey.
1. Attraction
You're watching the Pilot episode, and you notice that one of the main characters is attractive. You thank the Netflix gods that you'll have something to look at for however many seasons the show is.
2. Excitement
You learn the character's name, and start noticing them in episodes. Whenever they are on the screen, it makes you a little excited.
3. Selective Attention
Suddenly, you are halfway through a season and you realize that you have continued watching the show just for that character. Any episode where they have limited screen time, you can't help but be--bored.
4. You Discover The Actor
You decide to Google the actor that plays your favorite character. They may be just as attractive as their character, or maybe even more. And, you're lucky, because they probably have a great sense of humor too. Oh, shocker--they're perfect.
5. Getting To Know You
You watch a few interviews with that actor and follow them on social media (but you tell yourself this definitely is not stalking
). It's totally normal, you're in the process of becoming a fan--a really big fan.6. Motherly Instincts
You start to worry about your favorite character. If something dramatic happens to them, or if they are put in harms way, you flip out. Their happiness and safety matters to you.
7. Proud Parent
You get emotional when you see just how much they grow and change throughout the seasons. From hairstyles to wardrobe, you see them grow up before your very eyes.
8. Shipping
If they get a love interest, you immediately become fully invested in the pairing, and will ship it uncontrollably. You want them to be happy, after all.
9. You Question Their Future
Whenever spoilers are released, you only care about the ones that have to do with your favorite character.
10. Take Me Back To The Start
And if you reach the end of your character's journey in a series finale, you can't wait to start watching it all over again.
So, go ahead. Take a chance on that new show that you have had on your list forever. You never know when you will find a character that will be your whole world. But, finding carbon copies of them in real life might be a challenge. Yet, that doesn't mean that you have to stop looking for your Derek Shepherd, Chuck Bass, Damon Salvatore, or Nathan Scott anytime soon.
