Guilty pleasures are my favorite things. Beyond the rush of indulgence, there's the feeling of self-fulfillment, of doing something so profoundly selfishly, that I find inexplicably alluring. Acts like smoking a secret cigarette on the walk home or allowing yourself to be seduced by yet another sweet treat tend to top the list oft hidden delights alongside marathoning reality television or purchasing tabloid after tabloid. For me my go to me-time includes checking up on Total Fraternity/Sorority Move.
What bothers me is not knowing whether or not there's anything to be ashamed of in my taste.
I don't think that there is, like it doesn't have to be a "guilty pleasure" because it's obviously satirical. It gives us, as women in sororities, a chance to make fun of otherwise really serious institutions. Sorority life is fun, but not unique from college life in general. Especially at Columbia.
That's probably another reason why I like it: the women that are represented are so outlandishly described. They provide a perfect break from my actual sisters. I love to hate them, and how how much I am them. We all fall apart, we all have less than wholesome thoughts and experiences and it's important in my opinion that TSM talks about it.
We know sorority life is mad regulated, mad loving and mad worth it.
