3 Resolutions That Will Make Spring The Best Semester Yet

I’ve never before considered Spring to be a significant season. Yes, it is nice when the buds begin to form and I no longer have to wear Under Armour but I always considered it as just a time for the snow to melt and to begin bathing suit shopping. My move to North Carolina however, has presented me with 80 degree weather in February and endless opportunities to either stay in and study or go play frisbee in the quad (you could guess which usually wins). Southerners do Spring much differently and so far I have mentally decided to never return to the cold Northern winters. With this new change in my life, I have made some Spring Resolutions that I believe my classmates and I will benefit from this upcoming season:

1. Stay Positive.

Many of us are busy with Greek Life commitments, spring sports, and getting adjusted to our new classes and hectic schedules. Luckily, the sunny weather has lifted spirits recently though. No matter how involved you are on campus or what your schedule looks like, remember you can always fit in time to relax and enjoy the day. My favorite activities include hammocking or simply sitting by the lake with my laptop and either catching up on an episode of the Bachelor or working on some homework.

2. Stay Active.

One of the things I love most about Elon is that the school provides us so many places for athletics no matter where you live. Historic features Basketball and Volleyball courts for anyone to use. Global is nice because of it’s nice location to the athletic fields. Danieley includes a nice walk around the lake. No matter where you live, there is no excuse to sit inside on a beautiful day. Grab some friends and start a pickup game. You don’t have to be good (I don’t even know the rules of basketball), but it’s a good chance to meet new people and enjoy the Spring weather. Oh and you can’t forget about burning off that Biscuitville or the ever so dreaded Freshman fifteen.

3. Stay Motivated.

Waking up for class in the winter and having to make the trek across campus to an 8 a.m. was just not my thing. I felt lethargic, dull, and sluggish. Now that I can walk to class in shorts and flip flops, listening to country music and actually walking with some pep in my step, I feel much more motivated in my classes. This spring, I challenge everyone to think extra careful before skipping a class. Get out of bed and head over to class early. You’ll actually be able to take your time and enjoy the scenery. Then grab some food and a blanket and sit out after class with your peers. Take a breather and enjoy your day but only once you're done with your commitments.

Take Spring Semester as a chance to re-evaluate your life and make a better version of yourself if need be. Take time to realize your dreams and wants and then make a plan to achieve them. The warm weather is only going to make you feel better and assist you to do your best. I respect the Spring season much more now that I live in the South but I also believe that good vibes have to come from your determination and the work you put in, so make it the best semester yet and get ready for

summer because it’s just around the corner.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
