We all know that coming back from the holiday break is tough. No more of mom’s home-cooked meals, sleeping in until 3 in the afternoon, or days in bed binge-watching your favorite TV series for the third, fourth, or maybe even eleventh time … oops.
This Winter break, I re-watched my favorite series, Friday Night Lights, because when my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and even my grandmother’s neighbor’s wife asked who I was currently seeing, I was tempted to say, "Tim Riggins."
So to kick off the spring semester, why not apply some of the best moments from Friday Night Lights? Here are a few ways that Friday Night Lights applies to your spring semester:
Being late to class or not even going the first week of class (it’s drop/add, okay) may or may not make you noticeable to your professors. I mean, didn’t every one of your older friends tell you to meet your professors? An easy way to do that is to show up a few minutes late on the first day (as in the first day of the second week because the first is drop/add, okay). And the very first question you get at 9:05 a.m. on a Monday is ...
A great part about spring semester is the spring parties. There are plenty to keep you entertained on non-football weekends (still sad about it). I mean really, who doesn’t love a good darty or five darties in one day? I know I do; so be there or forever hear your best friends call and wonder ...
Too bad midterms and finals don’t vanish, though. You can’t forget that stress no matter how hard you try, and even in January, you already dread those weeks of stress. You will procrastinate, complain, and most likely cry your way through but hey, we have done it before and we will do it again. But there will be moments when we agree with Matt Saracen.
Fortunately, though, spring semester also means new classes, new professors, and new group of study buddies because let’s be honest, who else are you going to suffer with at 4 a.m.? But spring semester gives you a seemingly clean slate for a better and growing GPA. Here’s to many more nights saying these words ...
And maybe even this because you have hope in your grades and always in the Dawgs ...
I know — you’ve read this far and can’t believe I haven’t mentioned spring break. Seriously, I couldn’t forget that. It’s the most life-changing event (okay, that's a bit dramatic, but if the shoe fits, wear it) during the spring semester. Whether you go to Gulf Shores, on a cruise, or across the world, each and every person will tell you the same thing Coach Taylor said:
With all that being said (and being done this coming semester), cheers to another semester of college and wishing that you will end up with Tim Riggins.
Texas (Athens) forever.
