A Guide to Spring Break Essentials

As scary as it is, spring break is just around the corner. Whether you're hitting up Cabo San Lucas for your senior spring break trip with all of your best friends or road tripping to Florida with your family, it's always difficult packing. If you're like me, you overpack a ridiculous amount of clothes that you're POSITIVE you're going to wear, then throw to the side when unpacking and planning out your outfit for dinner and drinks that night. If you're smarter, you almost under pack and wear everything you brought along on the trip, maybe even more than once.

Last year, I learned from my mistakes. I was studying abroad in Spain and ventured on plane, train and every automobile known to man throughout Italy. My back was crying in pain every time we made a pit stop for the night because the amount of clothes I had in my duffle bag was absolutely insane. This year, I have vowed to do things differently. Here is a list of essentials for the beach or any warm location you may be headed to for spring break 2015.

White dress.

Whether it be a shorter, more casual white dress (my favorite is a short-sleeved button up dress) or a longer, more formal white dress, it's pretty much a vacation necessity. For starters, white makes you look tanner than you already happen to be. It a very summery look that never seems to go out of style during the warm weather season.

Romper.

Rompers can double as evening attire for a fun-filled night of dinner and dancing, as well as a beach cover up. They keep things simple, but can also be paired with wedges or nicer sandals for an evening out exploring a new city.

Floppy hat.

Many people burn quite easily and it's never fun to burn on top of burn. Bring a floppy hat to the beach or wear it while shopping during the day to avoid sun contact with already sensitive skin. Make things easy on yourself and wear it on the plane so it doesn't get smashed in your bag.

Cat-eye sunglasses.

They're my favorite recent trend. Cat eye sunglasses have a summer-like feel to them and can be very helpful when strolling on the beach or reading by the pool.

Chubby Sticks.

Clinique makes the best lip stick/chap stick combination on the planet called Chubby Sticks. They don't necessarily feel like lipstick, but they have various colors that do wonders as well as tons of moisture for when your lips get a little burnt or feel chapped from the salt water. They also look great when going out on the town to add a pop of color to any outfit.

Face wipes.

I personally love face wipes because they work so well when taking off makeup before washing your face or taking a shower. Especially with the combination of makeup, chlorine, salt water and sunscreen, you'll definitely want this on hand in case of emergency.

Waterproof mascara.

Waterproof mascara will be your best friend on spring break. Somehow, mascara works incredibly well for a simple touch up especially when you want to look more awake on the beach even if you are going to nap. Add a little waterproof mascara and you'll automatically look more alive and also avoid that whole makeup running down your face look the second you're thrown into the pool.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
