The Post-Spring Break Blues

Spring break is over... now what?

The Post-Spring Break Blues

This year I was able to go to Ft. Myers Beach in Florida with my sisters for our spring break. For those of you who have never been to Ft. Myers it is pretty quaint little area. It was honestly the most relaxing place to run away to after having serious stress from school.

After having a full week of fun in the sun (sorry for being corny) we eventually had to come back and face reality. With that being said, here are the dreaded stages you go through coming back home from spring break:

Complaining.

Even before I left the state of Florida I complained about leaving. I knew that once I got back home I would have to start doing homework again and face the real world. Being gone at a faraway place (even Florida) gives you the feeling that there are no responsibilities that you have to worry about. Coming back gives you that big slap in the face that, "oh wait I still need to catch up on everything that I left behind last week." In this stage it is common to annoy your friends to the point where they want to come home. Complaining can be about how you don't want to go back home, how much going home sucks, and basically anything that you can think of. The possibilities are endless.

Denial.

Honestly this is the worst of them all, and I'm pretty sure that I am still stuck in this stage. Coming back home to Indiana where there is snow instead of sand is certainly a culture shock. Still denying that you have to wear real pants can also be a side effect. Many times within the past day getting back home I decided that wearing shorts outside and around the house was a good idea… It wasn't, but I still did it anyway. Pretending that homework doesn't exist along with not doing laundry or anything that involves work is also very common.

Acceptance.

Finally when it all comes down to it you realize that you have to get back to the grind of things and actually live life. Homework isn't going to do itself, even that that would be pretty cool. In this stage you recognize that fighting your urge to sit and watch Netflix should be stopped, and more productivity should be happening. Even though doing all of the responsibilities that you left behind a week ago sucks, it has to be done and will all be worth it in the end.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
