Spring in Auburn

Spring in Auburn

I had the first glimpse of what spring in the best college town in America is like today. Now, I know that the groundhog saw his shadow, and I've looked at the rainy and dreary forecast for the rest of the week, but today gave me hope that spring on campus is going to be a blast. Here are the things I am most looking forward to about this spring!

Enoing

Without a doubt, Eagles Nest Outfitters has created one of the most popular “toys", if you will, for college students across the Southeast. Working in a mountain outfitting store in high school only proved this to me, as during the spring/summer months our ENOs would fly off the shelves. The brightly colored nylon hammock has become a common feature on many college campuses, hanging from trees, buildings, and basically anything else you could possibly hang it from. I love seeing my peers enjoying their hammocks and I love hanging up mine and swinging, reading, and socializing for hours on end (mine is red, white, and blue so you know I love to show it off). I can't wait for many more hours of ENO-ing to come this spring!

Toomer's Lemonade

Every Auburn student's favorite drink is best enjoyed on a sunny day with good friends and good music. Though we here in Auburn don't let a little chilly weather keep us from supporting our favorite drug store by buying our favorite lemonade, I can't wait to sit outside and sip on some cold lemonade when it's actually sunny and warm.

SUNSHINE

This is in all caps because come on, who isn't pumped up about more sunshine in their life? Luckily we didn't experience any terrible winter weather cause it's Alabama and nothing too exciting really ever happens here, but the windchill and cloudy days have me longing for my old friend. There's nothing more satisfying than sitting outside and soaking up the sun, which I am planning on doing just as soon as it decides to come out and stay out, instead of the games it's playing with me now. (PS how awesome is this pic?!)

Chacos and Shorts

I, for one, am getting a little tired of pulling on my leggings every day and stuffing my feet into my tennis shoes. Shorts are coming back, though, people! Not to mention the greatest invention of all time.. the one and only… Chacos!! I own 3 pairs and am an avid advocate for the fantastic shoe. I really can't wait to slip on my Chacos and go to class. Not to mention, everyone (even though you might not admit it) is a little proud of their Chaco tan by the end of the summer, and I'm ready to start working on mine.

Spring Break

Okay so this technically doesn't take place on campus, but how could I not mention the most anticipated week of the year? Personally, I'll be headed to the beach with 16 of my new sisters. I'm so excited for the opportunity to get to know some of my friends on a deeper level, not to mention how much fun we are going to have! I mean, who doesn't love the beach?! Even if you don't have plans with the best pledge class on campus (I mean ADPi rules, amirite?) spring break is a great chance to take a break and spend time with the people you love, right before jumping headfirst into school before finals.

Spring has always been my favorite season, and I really can't wait to experience my first one as a student at Auburn. No matter what grade you are in, make sure you stop and really experience all that spring at Auburn has to offer, because I have a feeling it's gonna be really great.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
