With twenty Panhellenic sororities at PSU, it could be a little hard to get the low-down on each chapter, so I'm here to give you all the juicy details!
This week I had the honor to interview my own chapter president, Elen Filippatos. Even though I knew a lot of these answers myself, I thought that I'd ask anyways and fill you guys in on why Kappa is so great!... (I may be a little biased)
When and where was Kappa founded?
- Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded in 1870 on October 13th at Monmouth College Illinois. The Delta Alpha chapter at Penn State was founded on October 3, 1930!
What are your colors?
- Dark blue and light blue
How about your symbols?
- The golden key
Whats your motto?
- Aspire to be
What's unique about Kappa Kappa Gamma?
- Kappa is unique because we are not all exactly the same, but still mesh as a unified group. We are diverse in so many ways, yet together we are just a group of fun-loving, down-to-earth girls who support each other in our similarities and differences.
Why did you want to be president?
- I wanted to be president because I wanted to give back to Kappa in the best way I could. This sorority has given me amazing friends and expierences that I will cherish for my entire life.
What has been your favorite moment so far?
One of my favorite Kappa moments was attending our national convention this summer! A Penn State sister, our chapter adviser, and I had the opportunity to see Kappa on a much larger scale than we are used to. Being in a room with over a thousand of my sisters, bound by our values, rituals and experiences was an incredible feeling. We learned so much from each other and got to know so many new sisters
Why are you proud to be a Kappa?I’m proud to be a Kappa because I am never alone. No matter what decisions I make as president, I always have 150 friends behind me. My sisters are constantly supporting me both as a leader and a friend.
