To everyone out there who listens to Spotify for free, some big changes might be happening to your music experience soon.
Sources like Digital Music News and Engadget have reported that Spotify is facing pressure from Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group to make changes to its free listening policy, or Spotify might not receive its license renewal in October. Not to mention Apple Music is becoming a real competitor with Spotify, and artists like Taylor Swift have voiced their opposition to Spotify's policies.
So what will these changes be, if they do in fact happen? Supposedly, the changes range from free listeners only being able to listen to a few tracks on a new album, to being limited to only a few hours of music a day. Whatever tactic Spotify chooses, it will be to persuade listeners to subscribe to Spotify Premium.
Spotify has yet to comment on all this speculation, so let's hope it is all in fact rumor. But, if these changes do happen, I recommend taking advantage of Spotify's Premium discount for students if you are in school. I don't know about y'all, but I don't want to lose my studying music.
