If you are in hot-pursuit of something sugary, and you also happen to be roaming the streets of New York, I guarantee you will find something or other to satisfy your sugar addiction. However, if you're looking for something different, cool and trendy, let me redirect you to one of my all-time favorite Bars in Manhattan:
Nestled in the heart of the trendy and grungy Astor Place, Spot Dessert Bar bears delightful treats that fuse Asian flavors with American Classics. The exquisite and artful design of each dessert served at Spot have many customers coming back. I, a not-so-native, wannabe New Yorker, was introduced to this Bar (which I am legally allowed to enter, thank you very much) by a vibrant friend who is well-versed in the city's treasures.
We met up outside Spot, and I was instantly enchanted by its charming appearance. We walked down a short flight of stairs and into a cozily placed, petite Dessert Bar. There we were seated promptly and given two exquisitely decadent menus that illustrated all of their fine desserts.
I, a die-hard Chocoholic, but, of course, had to order the Chocolate Lava Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream. That was a must. While waiting, impatiently to be quite honest, I was entranced by the overpowering, wafting smell of sugar. I saw waiters carrying trays full of potted-plant shaped cheese cakes, waffle-shaped sweet cakes, and there, finally, came my beautiful, beaming chocolate cake.
As if in slow motion, my chocolate lava cake could not come slower to me. I watched in utter astonishment as its whimsical and delightful appearance was finally placed right beneath my ready-to-plunge-in fork. My friend and I amused for only a few seconds, over our beautiful desserts. I, a proud basic, whipped out my phone and snapped a few pictures of my beloved cake's perfection before I absolutely slaughtered it.
The gooeyness of the melting chocolate seeping out my cake mixed with the chilling, frozen delight of my green tea ice cream together came to make a beautiful and tasty waltz in my salivating mouth. I can guarantee you, Spot Dessert and all of its fine desserts have customers, such as myself, coming back, desperate for more.
As Marie Antoninette allegedly proclaimed: Qu'ils mangent de la brioche aka "Let them eat cake." I certainly took that to heart.
