Some people are so used to their daily life routines and the plans they make for themselves to guide them through the day. They create expectations of what their future entails based on the plan they have created. I am one of those people.
However, right at this very moment, it is 12:30 AM and I am on a 3 hour road trip to Toledo, Ohio to pick up my boyfriend. He was on a 3 week backpacking trip out west and was supposed to meet his family and me at the beach on Monday. Now it is Thursday and he is back from his trip and at his brother’s apartment, and would have to wait until Monday to join us at the beach that we are leaving for in the morning.
His sister, his brother -in- law and I were in the kitchen, bummed that he wouldn’t be able to meet us until Monday, even though he is technically back from his trip, when we decided to get some coffee and go get him in Toledo.
Danny, being a very spontaneous person, hence the trip out west and pretty much everything he does, was on board, too. So here I am in the back seat, freaking out about how this is the most spontaneous thing I have ever done, and I am LOVING IT. I am such a planner and like to know what is coming next, but this is such a pleasant surprise. For the past 3 weeks, I have been looking forward to being reunited with Danny at the beach on Monday, but one little decision completely changed that plan.
This adventure has made me realize how flexible our schedules actually are, and how if someone means enough to us, we will always make time for them. I could be in bed right now and wake up to head to the beach without Danny. Instead I am going to skip out on the sleep to go get him to be with him after weeks apart.
Moral of the story, be spontaneous. Make time for people. Do what you want to do. I finally realized that life does not have to be planned minute to minute, anything can happen.
Thank you Cassie and Andy for joining me on this adventure! I’m sorry we were stuck in traffic at 1 am, but we got Danny out of it. This memory will last forever and will remind me to keep my mind open to the possibilities outside of my planner. You’re awesome.
