Spice Up Your Room With Some Summer Crafts

The warm sunshine on your face, the thick grass tickling your feet, and the tall glass of ice tea in your hand are pretty good indicators that summer is in full swing. Along with reading an America classic or two and catching up on your favorite television shows, summer is notorious for cultivating the creative side of our brain. Maybe it is the endless hours on Pinterest, or the afternoons spent window shopping that lay the foundation for this daunting endeavor. Whatever the source, we find ourselves spending far too much money at Michael’s or Joann’s while reminiscing about the Martha Stewart our parents thought we were. Now seems like a pretty good time to tap into those buried talents.

For those of us returning to school, we have bedrooms to decorate, and for those who are off to find success in the real world, you have apartments to decorate! Embrace this downtime to create something for your new home!

String of Polaroid photos. There is limited crafting skills necessary for this project. Cut out some snapshots of your favorite summertime memories and a white backing slightly longer than the photo. After glueing the photo to the card stock, pick up some tiny clothespins and some twin. After assembling, you will have created the cutest country chic wall collage!

Motivational canvas. Paint your own canvas with a word or phrase that you love! This craft is loved by most because it does not require the creator to paint within any lines! Make sure to pick up letter stickers in the size and font you want. Make sure the stickers will fit on the canvas size you choose. Before placing the stickers on the canvas, paint the entire canvas the color you want the letters to be. After allowing the paint to dry, place the stickers in the configuration you desire. Paint over the entire canvas (and stickers) again. This will act as the background for your canvas. If you’re feeling really crafty you could use blue painters tape to make chevron stripes or checkers and paint each section a different color. Only after the canvas has dried, peal the stickers off. Voila! You have yourself a one of a kind art piece!

Frame some wrapping paper. This is for those of us who steer clear of paints and sticks. Wrapping a little wall paper is an incredibly easy way to add some color to your room. Pick out the design you like, maybe purchase the matted texture rather than the gloss paper, and a cute frame from Target. The great part of this project - it can be any size you want and only takes a few minutes!

Brighten your room with twinkle lights. These yellow bulbs may be little but they sure do make a room shine! Whether you string them up around the edges of the ceiling or create a design on your wall, you are sure to have something that gives your room a little extra character.

Tack up a tapestry. This is for those of us without much artistic ability nor patience to try to channel it. Purchasing a cheap tapestry online and tacking it to the wall is an instant splash of color and personality! A new year is a fresh start, make sure your room embodies what this year will be for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
