Soul Purpose

Let's get weird.

Who ever said being weird was a bad thing?

Would you be offended if you were called weird? What if we were called by God to be considered “weird”? To understand what “weird” means we first must understand the opposite of weird, which is normal. So what is normal? Is there such thing? Not really, but most consider “normal” like the average among society. So I quickly just want to summarize what “normal” is in our society, and then you can tell me if you want to be considered normal, or weird. Your answer might shock you.

Normal in this society is living pay check to pay check. It might surprise you to look up statistics on how in debt the average person and household is, it’s heartbreaking. I mean just look at our country, we are trillions of dollars in debt, and rising.

Normal in this society is being selfish, petty, and envious. No one seems to be happy with what they have. Instead, everyone is always looking out for the next new thing, and trying to keep up with what others have. We aren’t looking to help anyone but ourselves because we worked so hard for what we have. Others should work hard too, right? Well let me tell ya, it’s nice when you’re on the winning side and you’re doing well, but what about when the tables turn?

Normal in this society is being stressed or anxious on a daily basis. This doesn’t need much explanation because it is so obviously true. Every day there are triggers, and things that happen in life that make our stress levels rise, it often seems unavoidable.

Normal in this society is being lustful. Men look at women as objects, women look at men as objects. Relationships are threatened because lust comes between people. Lust is a demon that never seems satisfied, many people struggle with this in society.

Normal in this society is feeling unfulfilled. Do you know anyone that throws themselves into relationships no matter how awful just because they are trying to feel a void in their life? Or maybe they become obsessed with work, drugs, or alcohol.

Now doesn’t that sounds appealing? Being normal doesn’t sound too fun now does it? Sometimes we get so caught up in life, going through the motions we forget that God calls us to be different than the people of this world. People should look at our lives and question every single thing that we do. We should we considered weird.

To live a life with a soul purpose we need to stop living our normal lives and start getting weird. We need to start loving others unconditionally, so much so that people don’t understand how we could do so. A love that is unfathomable. We need to start giving to others, not just those who need it, but those who don’t even know they need it. When we see the needy we shouldn’t look at them and think “Well you probably got yourself in that situation, you should get out.” We need to help them in anyway we can. We need to begin to stop worrying about money, and stop trying to hold on to it, because news flash, you can’t take it with you to heaven. Tithe at church, and remember when you tithe your 10% the other 90% isn’t just yours to go spend on yourself, but it’s still God’s and should be used with wisdom.

We need to stop living life how others do so and begin living life how Jesus did. Jesus was considered one weird dude back in his time, he wasn’t some amazing pop star celebrity that had so much money he didn’t know what to do with it. He was actually considered to be homeless. I’m not saying to go sell your house and give away everything you own, but if God did call you to do that, would you? Nothing should be holding you back from giving everything up for God. When you live a life like that, you are living a weird life, and a life with soul purpose.

When we decide to get up and live weird we will be living life with a soul purpose. So how do you want to be categorized? Normal or weird? You decide.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
