Sorority stereotypes need to stop.

Play-N-Skills "Literally I Can't" music video

We have all heard the jokes. "Literally I can't even!" "Can you odd?" Whatever.Ā Like any joke, this was funny at first, but now I'm sick of it.Ā

Recently a music video came out by Play-N-Skillz called "Literally I Can't," and feature several artists such as Redfoo from the music group LMFAO. Well, let me tell you about this particular music video. The videoĀ makes fun of sorority girls and as a sorority girl myself I am sick of these incorrect stereotypes that are constantly played out in all forms of entertainment and daily life.

Several of these stereotypes can be seen in the musicĀ video. I don't know about your sisters, but mine are nothing like the girls in this video.Ā

To start off, sorority girls areĀ friendly. In the video the girls are only friends with eachĀ other and are rude to everyone else. News flash:Ā IĀ have friends that are outside of my sorority as do many of my friends. Just because you are in a sorority andĀ friends with your sisters does not mean that you only associate with them. I pride myself on the fact that I am still good friends with the people I lived withĀ in dorms previous years as well as people I've met on campus through other organizations I am a part of. Also, part of what makes the Greek community at any university great is the bond that Panhellenic holds. Each organization helps out and attends other organizations' philanthropy events to better the community as a whole.

Secondly, sorority girls are not snobs.Ā Let me tell you a secret: Most of my sweaters are from Target andĀ I can't tell you how many times I get compliments on my sweater game. (All girls secretly love Target so I'm not alone in this.)Ā We are more than our labels, whether or not the media chooses to believe this. This goes for Greek students all around the country, not just at my university.

The third thing from about this video that was incorrect is thatĀ sorority girls are classy ladies. This music video objectifies women in ways we should not be comfortable with.Ā During the video, someone has their phone on a porn site that apparently features one of the girls. This is completely unrealistic.Ā My sisters act like the future female leaders of the world that they are to become.Ā They are aware that theyĀ are always wearing their letters, and they represent those letters with dignity and grace. The "slutty sorority girl" stereotype is grossly exaggeratedĀ and is something we should stand up against. Oh and spoiler alert, we all do not walk around in our underwear and have pillow fights every night. Sorry boys.

And lastly, I know a lot more wordsĀ than "I literally can't." Actually, I have a very diverse vocabulary. This joke really needs to die already and as a community we should put an end to it.

Being a sorority girl is so much more than wearing the right clothes, saying the right things, looking the right way, and acting the right way. Being in a sorority is about sisterhood and philanthropy. It is about being yourself and at the same timeĀ being a part of something greater than yourself.

So a message toĀ the main focus of the video,Ā Kappa Kappa Gamma alumĀ Maxine Hupy: please remember, you're always wearing your letters.Ā

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
