A Great American tragedy happened last Friday. Rape Turner, better known as Brock Turner, received an early prison release for sexual assault. His original sentence was six months.
He served half that time.
Something lower than the lowest breathing creature one can imagine, evil that would make The Joker cringe, pushed this man to rape an unconscious woman behind a dumpster outside a party last year.
And with all the facts coming out--the victim's brave statement recounting her experience, having woken up with her "bra pulled out of my dress, dress pulled off over my shoulders and pulled up above my waist, that I was butt naked all the way down to my boots, legs spread apart, and had been penetrated by a foreign object by someone I did not recognize," all Rape Turner got for his actions...was half of half a year in prison.
A sentence he deserved, because, according to presiding Judge Aaron Persky, a prosecutor's recommended six-year-sentence would prove a "severe impact" on this impressionable, so-understanding-of-consent, young man.
There are guys right now serving life over simple dimebags--many of them nowhere near as fair-skinded as Turner--who never got that consideration.
Now, Mr. Turner is released from the "severe impact" that would've crushed his psyche, surely the last person deserving of such a punishment. Yeah, he raped someone. But he was a standout college swimmer! And lighter-skinned.
He can go on to life a fabulous life, as a convicted sex offender. Certainly, we're all the more better for him avoiding that "severe impact" so we can enjoy his incoming societal contributions.
Let's hope these folks are always around to remind him of his "potential." And that one of them--preferably one well-armed--gets close enough to "remind" him in a way he'll never forget.
